No Complaints!

We really enjoyed our stay at La Vue D'Or. The English speaking staff was very helpful and nice. The shuttle into town was very convenient and ran numerous trips a day. The hotel also offers an included a buffet breakfast. A small lunch menu available for purchase to be enjoyed at the pool, or on the front veranda. And, the hotel dining room is available for dinner if you don't want to go into town.

Just loved this hotel !

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed 3 nights in Sorrento for part of our European honeymoon and we couldnt ask for a more relaxing and pleasant place to visit.

Friendly and helpful family run place. Nice breakfast (included) and convenient shuttle to town.

Close to day visits to Capri and all towns on the Amalfi Coast!!

Hotel was well maintained, clean, and a bit modernized.

Cant wait to come back and stay here again.....

Some Info Please

Can anyone tell me the address of the Hotel La Vue D'or? I have the address of the hotel located on the Nastro Verde, but the other identically named hotel situated 6.5km from Sorrento is more difficult to find.

Faulty Towers

We stayed for 1 week in a Double room with a sea view and balcony. This room was small and dark. On the second night we had a heavy rain storm which resulted in water running down the wall inside the room next to the wardrobe. Over the remaining days this turned to mould. The shower did not drain away any water, you had to run the shower for 30 seconds and then turn it off standing in the cold ,waiting for the water to drain away before the bathroom flooded.
The reception staff were not helpful and we were told that credit cards were not accepted to pay the bill.
The evening meals were bland. Out of 7 nights stay, we had chicken and chips for 3 nights. This was not descibed as chicken and chips on the menu. Each day it turned into a game to work out which item on the menu would turn out to be the chicken and chips. Please dont be fooled by the promise of a red pepper sauce!!!! It never arrives.
The fresh fruit dessert is exactly as it sounds, a silver bowl with and apple and an orange in it and grapes which are yet to develop beyond a pin head in size.
The swimming pool was very cloudy and did not look like it had been clean for months. No evidence of a childrens pool.
The mini bus service into sorrento town was very punctual but there were no buses between 12.15 and 17.30. the last bus at night was 23.30 which stopped any late night wine evenings.
Overall this hotel was over priced and we would not recommend this to other tourists.

Quiet & Friendly...

We visited for 7 nights in Aug '06 taking two twin rooms (152 & 153). Both rooms had a small balcony with two chairs & a table, TV (with BBC world & CNN in English) and bathroom with shower & bidet, rather small but adequate.

Hotel is located fairly remotely from Sorrento about 10 km out of town so you have to rely on the hotel courtesy bus or the regular service bus (1 euro each way) or take a taxi (30 euros from Piazza Taso). This remote location ensures great views over Sorrento and the Bay of Naples towards Vesuvius, with peace & quiet for sunbathing. Although we stopped in August did not find the hotel too busy or noisy with children.

Clearly, the hotel has undergone refurbishment as it is very well decorated and maintained, all communal areas were cleaned every day as were our rooms, with fresh bedlinen and towels. I also give the all the staff full marks for making you feel welcome and for having a very helpful attitude, we arrived late (after 9pm) and were still greeted with a meal although the restaurant was closed. Our rooms had airconditioning (4 euros per day), the hotel has wi-fi in each room or use the hotel's computer in reception (5 euros per hour) but this does get taken over by teenagers chatting with their mates at home for hours.

Breakfast is the usual self-service continental style with the waiters serving tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc and guests helping themselves to fruit juice, sliced meats, cheese, yoghurts, breadrolls and cereals, no complaints about choice. You must also chose your dinner at breakfast time and, if anything does let the hotel down, it is dinner. Three courses, limited choice, served from 7pm to 8.30pm. No complaints about the quality of the food but we did expect dinner to be an occasion in Italy and this seemed a little like school lunch time, the only reason why I have not given a 5-rating, local wine 10 euros a bottle. Plenty of restaurants in Sorrento if you want that special occasion.

Overall I can definately recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing base when visiting the Amafi area, I thought that the standards set were very high, for a reasonable cost.

The Hotel with a view

by TripAdvisor Member ViolettaRavioli

We have just returned from a great holiday at the Vue D'Or Hotel. We had a fantastic room, the view was a dream. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The Hotel was kept spotlessly clean as was our room. A special mention to the restaurant staff who, in the first week of our stay, had complaints about the quality of the food and selection on the menu. The second week was much improved and while the menu was mostly the same the improvements that were requested were noted and the food was great. If you do not fancy the choices, although not mentioned on the menu, omelettes and potato chips were catered for. Also a table is allocated to you on arrival so see the waiter first.
The courtesy bus was very handy but the last bus back to the Hotel from Sorrento is at 12.30pm so we sometimes needed to take the local Sita bus but avoid the 1pm and 1.30pm buses as they carry school children travelling home and are packed and too full to stop at any bus stops except the bus station. If you need a Sita bus it's best to take it from the Hotel to the bus station first to find your bearings. The stop to return is at the top of the entrance hill then turn left, the timetable is on the wall, St Agata or Nerano via Nastro Verde are two of the buses to the Hotel.
If you need a launderette, a self service one is allocated at the corner of Via Degli Aranci for four euros. If, as with us, it's busy do not go along the road to the cleaners, we took ours there and were well and truly stung, ie 1/2 dozen tee shirts, underwear and socks, the cost 80, yes thats 80 euros - also one of my tops was missing.
Back to the Hotel, I would recommend the Vue D'Or and its staff to anyone looking for a peaceful base for their holiday. The Hotel was one of the best we have visited on our travels and will spoil us for others in the future. Wonderful.
