Great Ocean Views

Sorrento is one of the best known resorts in Italy, situated on an incredible coastline of unrivalled beauty, on the northern slope of the Sorrentine Peninsula surrounded by luxuriant hills where olives and the best quality citrus fruits are grown. The site of was a favored retreat of the Romans, and here they built their fabulous villas. Sorrento has been nicknamed “La Gentile” because of the gentleness of its climate, the refinement of its streets and gardens and of the friendliness of its inhabitants. I found Sorrento to be captivating city, you can enjoy the scenery, take a boat ride to Capri, take a bus or car ride (if you're brave) down the Amalfi Coast, take a trip to Pompeii or roam the shops for inlaid wooden items and lovely cameo jewelry. A great destination to visit with much to do and see.
Trains to Sorrento
by longsanborn
It is quite easy to get to Sorrento from Naples.
From the Naples main train station (Napoli Centrale), you go down the stairs and that’s where the Circumvesuviana train is (it is just like the metro and is clearly sign-posted). This train will take you to Sorrento in about an hour and it is about Euro 3.20 for a ticket. It is better to buy the ticket from the ticket booth; I tried to buy the ticket from the machines but fortunately, it didn't want my credit card and I had to queue for the ticket. I found out that it cost less to buy the train ticket from the booth than the machines.

Food with a view
by Catspjm about La Tonnarella
La Tonnarella Hotel would be one of the nicest lunch time venues in Sorrento. Book early and get one of the small balconies overlooking the sea and Marina Grande. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced and the house wine is one of the cheapest in Sorrento! You will have had better food, you will have had better wine, I doubt if you will have had better views. Put all the components together and the overall dining experience has to be truly unforgettable. All of the seafood pasta

Opening to something wonderful
by Pawtuxet
Maybe one of you can help me here. I don't remember what the building is at the end of this narrow lane, but what always intrigues me is to come into a square with something wonderful like this handsome piece of architecture. I guess it's the plan of the city .. someone must have given a lot of thought to our walking experience when they built all of this. Where are those planners today? Surely not in some of our modern towns.
