Limoncello
by Polly74
If you have ever been to Italy, you'll instantly know about limoncello. It is a lemon liqueur that is served well chilled in the summer months. It is wonderful as a palate cleanser or as an after dinner drink. Keep your bottles of limoncello in the freezer until ready to serve.
If you want to prepare Limoncello yourself, the ingredients are simple and few, and making a batch doesn't require much work, but you'll need some time.
How to get there

The easiest way to get to Sorrento is to catch the train from Naples.
It is a fairly slow trip - there are lots of stops along the way. Towards the end it becomes more scenic. It takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to Sorrento.
You can even get off the train at Pompeii for a visit, which is halfway between Naples and Sorrento
a favourite haunt of Pavarroti!

We went for lunch, had a 3 course lunch which was gorgeous.
The actual place is gorgeous too, sit outside.
The waiter was helpful in recommending dishes. We had courgette flower to start which I had never eaten before and it was amazing, then I had ravioli again lovely and for desert we all had a local dish which was like merangue filled with a lemon sauce (sorrento lemons oviously!) it was gorge too.
"...one of the world's great bus rides."

With Sorrento as our home base, we took a day trip south to the Amalfi Coast. As my guidebook says, this is "one of the world's great bus rides. It will leave your mouth open and your film exposed." We made sure to sit on the right side of the bus to get the best views of the Mediterranean from the road on a cliff 5oo feet above the water. Those on the other side of the bus really missed out!
Our destination was the town of Amalfi. From there, we took a short and even curvier bus ride up to the town of Ravello where we found a spectacular ceramic plate.
No wonder they sing "Come back to Sorrento"

"The Streets of Sorrento"
What can I say, it's really beautiful and we didn't really see any of it! Ah, well, I guess we just have to go back...it's such a hardship, you know.

Lots of activity here
"An evening stroll"
We felt quite safe out in the evening. Mind you, we keep everything locked safely in moneybelts under our clothing. We don't wear expensive clothing or jewellery, so there's nothing to really attract attention, except that we are obviously tourists.
