The beach
by barryg23
It was a little bit pebbly, rather unclean, and very busy, but nonetheless I spent a lot of time on the beach. And quite enjoyed it. Much of the beach is given to private operators and hotels with their own beach-space, but we did manage to find the public areas in between all the umbrellas and deckchairs.
SITA bus
by myriam_c
The SITA bus will take you from Sorrento to the neighbouring towns: Amalfi, Praiano, Positano, Ravello, Napoli.
The SITA bus is NOT the bus you will want to take within the centre of Sorrento.
The SITA buses are the blue or green buses whereas the city buses (Circumvesuviana) are orange.
The main bus stop is at the Railway Station. Bus stops are frequent along the main road.
IMPORTANT: You have to buy your ticket before you board the bus. Tickets can be bought in the station, in tobacco shops, sometimes in other shops but NOT on the bus. Just tell the shopkeeper where you want to go and he will give you the right ticket. You will see that the ticket does not mention a destination but a time frame (60 min., 120 min., 180 min. etc.). As long as you travel within the time frame mentioned on the ticket you can take whatever bus/train you want. Make sure to "devaluate" your ticket by stamping it when you get on the bus.
To eat in a garden
by Cristian_Uluru about Ristorante Parrucchiano Garden
Ristorante Parrucchino Garden is located in the main street of Sorrento very close to the Cathedral. The environment is very nice and it is very similar to a garden with plants. The service is quite good. Pay attention because they add the 15% of service plus the usual Italian covered of euro 1.8. This is a big contradiction because in Italy the covered included the cost of the service!!!! In this restaurant I can suggest to taste tris of pasta (three kinds of pasta (Paccheri, gnocchi and tortellini) filled with tomato and cheese. As main dish I can suggest to try the tonno alla griglia (grilled tuna with vinegar): it was very good but the tuna was very little (only 4 little slices).
Basilica of Sant Antonino
by Polly74
The Basilica was erected in the XI century in the place where an antique oratory dedicated to Saint Antonino stood, there where rested the mortal remains of the Saint that here found refuge during the Longobard invasion.
The Church is rich with elements of spoil, like the column shafts coming, most probably, from the numerous Roman country homes present in the area.
Take the alternate route
by Pawtuxet
In this case, Susan and I chose not to take the taxi back and forth to town all the time, but rather to walk the path which natives of the town use. There were no signs or special attractions along the way...other than marvelous gardens, lemon trees, olive groves, and beautiful old stone walls. It was a good choice...and helped to burn up some calories at the same time. :-)
