More about Villa Monica B&B Sorrento

Best view in Italy!

by TripAdvisor Member flygurl814

My husband and I stayed here for two nights while traveling through Europe. Due mainly to our stay at the Villa Monica, Sorrento was my husbands favorite city, beating out London, Paris, and Rome. The views were AMAZING, and Pascale was the best host one could have. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy and well taken care of.

The room was very clean and spacious, and we had a balcony with a view of the beautiful Italian hillside. It was so nice to escape the ridiculous crowds of Sorrento (we could barely walk through the streets when we arrived) just a few miles up to the Villa Monica. Breakfast was also great, and the place where Pascale picks you up and drops you off, Patesserie Monica, has delicious desserts for sale. This is the one place we will recommed to all our friends - go to Sorrento and stay at the Villa Monica!

View to die for at Villa Monica

by TripAdvisor Member Jackaleen

If you are looking for a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius look no further. While Villa Monica is off the beaten path, its perch high up in the hills of lovely Sorrento make it quite worth the effort to get there. Pasquale will take good care of you and he makes fabulous cappucino!
One of the best values in Italy.

Room with a view!

by TripAdvisor Member PhillyRiz

This bed and breakfast couldn’t have been more perfect. Just as you read in all the other reviews Pasquale was a great host and made sure we had a great experience. Our 15 year old son even had an awesome (his word) time. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer!

Do not be intimidated by the climb to this beautiful perch over all of Sorrento!

Don't pass up this wonderful find...

Sensational setting Sorrento

by TripAdvisor Member riptide7

Villa Monica is a beautiful place to stay, in a setting which is beyond compare. Nestling above the bustling town of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, it is a haven of peace and tranquillity after a day's sightseeing in Ercolano, Pompei, or the host of other tourist destinations which lie within easy reach via the excellent public transport, particularly the wonderful Circumvesuviana railway. The distance to the centre of Sorrento is no problem, as the owner of Villa Monica, the extremely hospitable and accommodating Pasquale, runs a regular shuttle-service up and down the hair-raising roads, which he negotiates with consummate skill. He was kind enough to buy the Roma v Man U match on Sky when we were there, and did not even complain when Utd beat Roma 7 -1!
When we booked, Pasquale said Villa Monica would be a romantic place to celebrate our Siver Wedding; how right he was!

Magic Views DON´T DRIVE!

by TripAdvisor Member TouringClancys

My wife, my daughter & I spent 3 nights at Villa Monica in late Feb 2007. It was off-season so we were the only guests. We have toured Europe and not found a view to beat the one from our bedroom balcony at Villa Monica. Pasquale looked after us well (though an illness in his family had him preoccupied at the time). We had not stayed in a B&B before this, but following this positive experience, we would consider it again in the future.
We were foolish enough to hire a car and use a GPS navigation system in southern Italy. Please learn from our mistake. Don´t drive here because the roads are ridiculously narrow and the other drivers on the road all have a death wish. A GPS is useless in Sorento because it will direct you up streets so narrow, that we had to fold away our rear-vision mirrors to fit up the street!
Pasquale will drop you into Sorento in the morning and pick you up in the evening. We got dropped to the station and visited Pompeii.

Pasquele went out of his way

by TripAdvisor Member CanadianFriends

Villa Monica is a little piece of heaven high above the town of Sorrento. Though the inn is 4 km. from Sorrento Pasquele goes out his way to accomodate you as he transports to and from town while answering all your questions about where to go, Italian customs and general inquiries. Beautiful views, clean and comfortable rooms, and reasonable prices make this a come back to destination.

SO NICE

by TripAdvisor Member Sebastian35

We spend four days in this beautiful property.
Everything was just perfect, the rooms are very well decorated spacious with comfortable beds.
We had had our breakfast every morning in the beautiful terrace with a magnificent view of Sorrento and the Vesubio
This is the perfect place to relax and sleep with out the noises of the traffic.
You will be receive by the owner Pascuale how takes care of every detail of your stay.
They makes you feel like you are in a family home instead a hotel.
Highly recommended

Great Sorrento B&B

Hotel Villa Monica sits high above Sorrento and you will enjoy incredible views from your balcony. Pasquale was an excellent host and made some great recommendations, including the incredible Ristorante Da Filippo.

A Great Find!

by TripAdvisor Member BuzzTraveller1967

My partner & I were planning a 4 wk backpacking Eurail trip and wanted to find a nice, "romantic" spot to chill out for a few days. Based on the pictures I found online, plus the glowing reviews of proprietor, Pasquale, I decided to book a 3 night stay at the Villa Monica. It was close enough for day trips to Ravello, Amalfi, Positano as well as Pompeii. It turned out to be a perfect choice and we were very pleased with our stay. The views are dreamy, the place is very clean and reasonably-priced.

It is located a few km outside of town... so it's really only possible to walk downhill into Sorrento; it would be a very long & difficult walk going back uphill (some sections are very steep). Thankfully, Pasquale offers a pick-up/drop-off service at pre-arranged times each day... and does so cheerfully making this a non-issue. [My only suggestion for improvement would be an earlier departure time in the morning in order to catch one of the ferry boats departing to nearby destinations. Leaving 9:30am from Villa Monica is too late -most ferries leave by 9:00am- so you have to wait until early afternoon for the next one... or take your chances with the somewhat unreliable/sporadic SITA local bus service].

Back to Villa Monica... to give you an idea of Pasquale's hospitality, here is something he did for us that was probably one of the highlights of our entire trip. I had originally requested a room with a full view of Sorrento Bay / Mt. Vesuvius (I explained it was our 10 yr anniversary and wanted something special). He only had a room with a "partial view" which - as it turned out - was fine. No, we couldn't see the entire bay, but we still had a nice view of the valley below plus total privacy. Besides, we could easily sit wherever we wanted on the property grounds, and so we moved the garden chairs used for breakfast to a different spot to enjoy unobstructed views.

The next day, Pasquale noticed this and said if we wanted, a room with a full view of the bay was going to be available that night - would we be interested in switching rooms? We jumped at the chance. The room was a little smaller, and it had a separate bathroom next door (for our exclusive use). But more importantly for us, we had the gorgeous view we originally wanted.

At this point, I would have rated our stay at the Villa Monica a 10 out of 10. However, what happened next would make be award Villa Monica at least a 12 out of 10!! :-)

We returned from a tiring daytrip to Positano and Pasquale picked us up from the Monica bakery meeting point in Sorrento (always promptly on time). Once we got back to our room, he pulled me aside and "apologised". He had forgotten that I had written (in one of the emails I wrote over 3 months ago... that I had already forgotten myself!!) that it was our anniversary. He probably didn't clue in right away because we are a same-sex couple. Besides, I saw no need to mention it again because all that was important to me was that we got a room with a view.

So, imagine our surprise when he took us out onto the balcony and there on the table was a vase with some flowers in it, a sign he printed up that said "Happy 10th Anniversary, Mark & Blake" along with two empty wine glasses. He then presented us with a complimentary bottle of....champagne!!! And within a blink of an eye he was gone... leaving us standing there completely shell-shocked at his unexpected generosity.

Considering we were in conservative southern Italy, we were really touched by this heartfelt gesture. (And in case you're wondering, Pasquale is straight). I don't know if Pasquale offers this type of "service" to all his clients, but it speaks volumes about how he wants his guests to enjoy their stay at Villa Monica.

If you are looking for easier accessability to city ameneties (shops/restaurants) and can easily put up with city noises, this might not be the place for you. However, if you are looking for something a little quieter with lots of charm AND you are flexible enough to coordinate your travel plans with Pasquale's pick-up service, you will be rewarded with a beautiful, peaceful location where you can enjoy a million-dollar view overlooking the town, the bay, and Mt. Vesuvius in the background. This is what we wanted, and this is exactly what we got (and more!).

Villa Monica was a very special stay for us and probably would be for anyone else who stayed here for a few days to enjoy Pasquale's hospitality and the gorgeous Amalfi Coast region.
