Suburb of Lucca-Working villages
"Town suburb east of Lucca"
This is a working town close to Lucca, --SEE MY LUCCA PAGE FOR THE SITES AND CHURHES---and an extension of the growth sprawl from the Lucca city limits. Besides having commercial shops along the main road, there also is a lot of agricultural land in the area. It is in a gentile valley ringed by Monti Pisani hills to the south and Pisorne hills north toward Segromino Piante. A number of small towns surruound CAppanori,; some called Pieve di Compito, Castelvecchio di Compito, and Ruota for the main ones. There are 34 municipalities in all, each with their own identifying symbols and churches
The area is set up for every day working and farming by locals, but also has some hotel and B&B quarters to review.
"Landscape views of Area"
The primary purpose to explore Cappanori is to take in the great views of the valley terrain and the gentle hills. There are hiking trails and wine and olive oil ventures that I guess you can take on your own, or have guided tours. We did not do that, so am only guessing.
"Churches and villas"
The impressive thing about driving around is to go by so many fabulous chiesas in the area. I would guess there are well over 50 within the boundaries of the commune itself. Not much is explained or detailed on the web, so you need to drive by and then ask what it was. As an example is the new and old church in CAppanori, or the number in Marlia area. The villas are also a big feature in the community. Right by the main town and just north are three famous ones-Torrigiana, Mansi and REale
