    Fantastic place to stay!

    by

I had read only good things about this hotel and the town-neither were exaggeration.

Reservations were made by internet. Email was answered promptly. The hotel web site gives provided a good resource for planning activities etc. Stefan and Rosi (reception and management) were very nice in arranging my stay before I arrived and making sure everything was perfect while i was there. the hotel now has free wifi, which they did not at the time of my visit. There was a large screen downstairs that served as a community room at the time.

I had a double room for 3 nights and got a glorious view of the Dolomites. The room was spacious, bright, impeccably clean and uncluttered. the porch was an added nice touch. Bathrooms were spacious and nicely remodeled. Nice sitting area in the room and local furnishings. Lots of closet space. Everything worked without any problems. The value for the price was outstanding.

The food and dining room was excellent. Breakfast buffet was excellent in terms of selection and quality. Dinner was a joy- delicious, well presented and reasonably priced. As other reviews have said, the restaurant was outstanding.

I can think of nothing really that was lacking that would have made my stay more convenient or comfortable. I look forward to returning the Dolomites soon...there was no hassle, no hurry, just this magnificent natural setting. I will definitely stay and the Cavellino on my next trip.

Unique Quality: The views from the porch of my room were sublime. There was no noise.

Directions: right off the main square

Travel Tips for Castelrotto

Welcome to Kastelruth/Castelrotto, the sunny side of South Tyrol.
Here, on the edge of the Dolomites, nature has always been particularly generous. Plenty of sunshine, healthy air and an enchanting landscape of unequalled beauty make it the ideal place to relax. There is a cosy, family atmosphere: stress and pressure are things people have only heard about. Kastelruth /Castelrotto is the main town of the Schlern/Sciliar plateau, as proves its impressive bell tower, which is the highest in the entire area and is visible far away.

The tower dominates the square and the imposing buildings in the town centre. It was rebuilt after the great fire of 24th May 1753. The St. Peter and Paul church was mentioned as a parish back in 1191, was later renovated and enlarged (1482 and 1704) and then destroyed by the fire mentioned above. The present church was built in the neo-classicist period and was consecrated in 1849. The tower, detached from the church, hosts Mary's chapel with a polychrome marble altar from the mid 18th century. Following the restoration works, the crypt with 50 burial chambers (of which only one is still occupied) was opened in 1976.

The beautiful Kraus tombstone was placed here and a simple memorial plate with a mosaic recalls the figure of Professor Leo Santifaller, great historian and freeman of Kastelruth /Castelrotto. The "Krausegg" Palace - today seat of the town hall - stands on the town square. Kastelruth's /Castelrotto's recent history is closely linked to the Lords of Kraus.
At Kastelruth/Castelrotto, there is tourist accommodation available in hotels, agriturismos, residence self-catering accommodation, b&b, rooms for rent, holiday homes, camp sites, tourist villages and alpin hut.
