Is the train station closed this weekend?
by neelv
I just heard that the Bologna Central station is closed this sat-sun
I am arriving Sat early morning to BLQ, was planning to take the aerobus to train station, leave my luggage in storage there for a few hours and check out Bologna. I was planning to take a late evening train to Florence.
Wow, any suggestions on what I should do now?
thanks

I am curious, where did you see this? I wonder if it is part of the renovation of the station that they have been planning...see

for artist's renderings (text in Italian)...
My question is, "is the station really closed to rail traffic?" or, more likely, "are the services in the station such as Left Luggage closed?"
I'd like to see the original announcement...thanks!

Hy,
It is true... What don't have made the allied bombardments in WW2 and the 02/08/1980 fascist bomb, Trenitalia has made it!!! The stop will begin Saturday morning at 09.00 o'clock and it will end on Sunday at 15.00 o'clock. The total block will be from the 22.30 of Saturday. Trains will depart from the other stations of Bologna and there will be very frequent connection shuttles from the Central Station. The Milano-Florence-Rome line will be in Bologna San Ruffillo Station from 22.30 Sat to 15.00 Sun. On the Ticket the station of departure will be written there.

If you catch the train to Florence in the evening, the Central Station should be still opened for this line and the left luggage too.

Thanks for the info...
So I can still take the aerobus from BLQ and drop my stuff at the left luggage office at bologna central station and come back and take a train to Florence in the evening. I guess there are no trains after 2200 hrs, so i need to depart before that.
Should I book my train ticket online or is it easy to just book it at the station?
Just incase the left luggage office is closed, are there any other options in Bologna to drop off luggage for a few hours.

Maybe today it is better buy the ticket at the station for more informations.
There aren't trains after 22.30 from Centrale to Florence but there will be free shuttles to BO San Ruffilio station.
Sorry, I don't know other places to drop off luggage in Bologna, maybe in the Terminal bus in Piazza XX Settembre, very close (200mts.)the Station on your left.
Have a nice holiday
Ciao, Marco
Travel Tips for Bologna
Eyesore or urban art?
by Tijavi
In addition to La Grassa (The Fat One), Bologna also enjoys the monicker La Rossa (The Red) for its colorful buildings (and some say for its leftist political leanings), and perhaps extending it a bit, to its graffiti - plenty of them around the city. I think it's easy to understand why considering the presence of some 90,000 university students - imagine all the pent-up emotions needing an outlet!
So what do I think of these graffiti? I'm no art expert, but some are actually done so well, they even liven up the city and are a refreshing contrast to the ancient medieval buildings, but others are just downright hideous.
San Luca
The walk up to San...

San Luca
The walk up to San Luca is long but well worth the effort, it is all under cover from sun or rain. The famous porticoes are very pretty despite their age. One of the most important portico is no doubt this one up to S.Luca, it is the longest in the world and links the city to the Sanctuary of Madonna di S.Luca, stretching for three and half kilometres over the hill of Monte della Guardia. In the Sanctuary there is a Madonna icon made from the evangelista Luca as people used to say. This is a very famous site not only for tourists, but also for the people of Bologna who used to climb these porticos in faith, for fun and also for jogging.
By night both Basilica and portico are lit up in order to be clearly visible.
Open-Top bus tour
by darkjedi
Trambus Open, the new tourist bus tour Giro Tp, gives you the opportunity to discover the beauties, art, monuments and secrets of Bologna
The bus, whose route of about 10 km goes through the historical city centre up to San Michele in Bosco, is managed with a single deck topless buses and, during the winter, with 20 completely covered seats. The tourist coaches are specially equipped with multilingual audio guides. The ticket Stop & Go is valid for the whole day and enables you to get on and off the bus whenever and wherever you like at the special Girotp stops.
We picked up this tour opposite the main railway station and did a complete tour before getting off. The guides spoke english and remained calm at all times despite the idiot american tourist in front of us that couldn't be bothered to use the in-bus audio guides but still insisted on asking what everything was. All the major sites are passed and a stop for the city view from a hillside church (not San Luca) is also included on the route.
Word of warning. Make sure the guide knows where you want to get off as the bus had a tendency to just drive past a stop sometimes. Tickets can be bought on board, at Atc sales points and in over 60 hotels in town. There is a useful route map to download and print out from their web site but you will also get one with your ticked priced at 10 Euros.
Friendly background
by alemir82 about Da Bertino
This restaurant is one of the best in town, and is very popular with the locals and tourists alike. This is the place to go for traditional Bolognese peasant-style cooking, and is a great place to start sampling some of the local cuisine. Bollito and arrosto accompanied by a range of traditional relishes, are very popular.
Palazzo d'Accursio detto Comunale
by croisbeauty
The construction of this imposing building was carried out throughout several years by uniting different buildings.
The building looks like a castle whose walls construction began early in 1336. On the facade there is the "terracotta" (earthenware).
Inside the building there are two lovely courtyards "Cortile d'Onore", the courtyard for the guest of honour while visiting Bologna, while the second one is "La Cisterna".
