A very good hotel close train station is Hotel Guercino (www.guercino.it), clean, nice and not really expensive. I enjoyed my staying there. On Booking reservation site (www.booking.com) you could find some good offers for this or other hotels close the University, looking at maps and reading guests rewiews. I suggest you to take a train from Milan or Rome (distance and prices are about the same), because is less expensive respect a plane: you can check prices and timetable on the railway site (www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html). Anyway, if you prefer to come by plane, from Marconi airport there's the aerobus wich can take you right to main train station in 10/15 minutes (from Forlì airport there's a Ryanair bus wich can take you there). Then take the bus C or the lines 33/36 to reach the University (situated in Via Zamboni 33).
Bologna is a students town and is quite safe, but is always better to be prudent (as in all the big cities), particularly at night. The city centre and the University area are full of pubs and locals where drinking and listening music, one address for all is the Art Music Bar Wolf (www.bar-wolf.it), wich offers live music every day.

Travel Tips for Bologna

Amazing statues in the anatomical theatre

by MarvintheMartian

Behind San Petronio, through one of Bologn's busiest porticosis the Palazzo Archiginnasio, formally a university building. It is covered with memorials to and crests of notable scholars. It now houses the town library; there's an old anatomical theatre upstairs, but you have to ask the portiere to open it. Shattered during the bombing of 1944, the theatre was subsequently reconstructed from thousands of rubbly bits.

Be sure to daytrip to Parma, Modena, Faenza, Ravenna and Ferrara. If I had to pick one, it would probably be Ferrara. Rent a bike and join everyone else. You can rent them just outside the train station for about ten bucks. The castle in Ferrara is a must see, as is the 'oldest medieval street'.

the best way is to use the train, its fast and cheap.
Avoid to go to the center of the city with your own car, they have very though rules to regulate the inner city traffic.U probably have to circulate around to park your car.So get your city pass for 12,000 lt from the tabbaco shop and use the bus inside the city.

Trattoria Anna Maria

by vaara about Trattoria Anna Maria

The kind of place where the walls are lined with autographed photos of Italian celebrities. Still, it's very convivial, and Anna Maria is very fond of foreigners. Hard to say... I only went there once. The duck was excellent, though.

Piazza Maggiore and the Fountain of Neptune
Piazza Maggiore, which is lined with majestic Romanesque and Gothic structures including the barn-like basilica of San Petronio, the Palazzo Re Enzo, and the Palazzo d'Accursio, now home to Bologna's city government as well as a small art gallery.

The nearby 17th-century fountain of Neptune is a symbol of Bologna and popular meeting place.
