HELP GETTING TO BOLOGNA DEPARTING FROM SIENA

by vickiepeterson

Can I get to Bologna departing from Siena by bus? If so, how long does this trip would take and how much would it cost? Thanks!

You could travel by bus from Siena to Florence. Then take a train to Bologna.

I've managed to find a service that operates from Siena to Bologna Airport.
The service is called 'Direct Ride' and I have got a phone number: 800 930 960.
They show a website as www.siena.it, but I can't get into it.
Good luck

Travel Tips for Bologna

Portici

by croisbeauty

This is one of the typical porticos of Bologna, which have a total length of 36 Km.
Originally, the porticos were made of wood which later on had been replaced with brick.
Palazzo Isolani and Palazzo Grassi are typical existing examples of building that underwent enlargement. People began to build the characteristic Portici partly because the town was often devastated by wars and fights, so that being not able to live outside the walls, they would rather expand their houses, and partly because porticos would protect them from rain, snow and sun.

The Oldtimers show at Piazza Maggiore, 14/09/2002

by croisbeauty

When I have visited Bologna, 14/09/2002, there was big Oldtimers show at Piazza Maggiore. I have took the picture of the most interesting cars.
This is, so-called pedomobile, type Mercedes, the oldest car on the show.

By car: Well, as I said - every road leads to Bologna! Put yourself on any Italian motorway and you'll see!

If you want to go on to Ferrara, do not take the motorway. It's only a 30-minute drive, so you better choose local roads which are: 1) OK, 2) free of charge, and 3) more scenic. You can't miss your destination because road signs will direct you at every junction. If you really feel lost (seems like some evil fairy pulled out all the direction signs), ask the locals.

By train: The situation's the same in this field - you should have a train to Bologna from any major Italian city. And there are plenty from Bologna to Ferrara every day.

Foot/city bus in Bologna, foot in Ferrara. Do not get around by car if you want to spare your nerves.

Mushrooms kingdom

by Burova about Al Montegrappa - da Nello

If you like mushroom and you are in Bologna during fall, this is definitely the right place. Try the mushroom soup or the grilled porcini. The restaurant is located a few steps from Piazza Maggiore. The prices are more or less in the average (€20 per person, wines excluded). Always crowded, so it’s better to reserve for dinner.

Museums of The Palazzo Communale

by Maria81

Collezioni Comunali d'Arte

On the second floor of the Palazzo Communale, it features paintings, sculpture and furniture, all predominantly dating from the 13th to the 19th centuries

Museo Morandi

Dedicated to (predictably) Giorgio Morandi, who was a local, it features over 200 of his classic works

Practicalities

Entrance to both museums is free
