where to stay?

by EPEKINDINI

Hello,
I will be in Bologna for 2 days on april 22-24. I will be here for work and needing to go to the exhibition center for the trade shows. im looking for a hotel that is in a good location close to the trade center and also close to the city center. I am also looking to spend about 180 euros a night; any recomendations? Also, where is their a good place to eat for single people?

In 2002, we stayed at the Jolly Hotel de la Gare, which is, not surprisingly, a block or so from the main train station. This hotel is a business class hotel, so nice enough. We ate in the restaurant there, and had their undivided attention as we were the only people there (we were very off-season ;-) ).

As I said, the train station is a block or so away. The hotel is a ten or so minute walk to the center, through those delightful arcades in Bologna. The hotel is about 2 kilometers from the Fiera (convention center)...several buses run to the Fiera (but I don't know off the top of my head how far you will walk to catch one), but I also think that the hotel has a shuttle that perhaps you can use. Check their website (if you can't find it through an Internet search, look at my Bologna page for the link).

Well, there will be many possible places to stay, but this one, at least, is a nice, business class hotel that someone has actually stayed in (I assume that they have rooms under 180 euro..I haven't looked recently)...

From 22/04/2008 to 24/04/2008 it will be "LINEA PELLE".. for sure prices are higher than usual, probably you won't have to go far away form city to find an hotel (sometime during Bologna's exhibition it's hard to find an hotel also at 60km far), so the first you'll find, it might be good.
Jolly hotel is well locate, good hotel close to railways Station, esay to go from/to R.Station to fair district and/or airport using normal buses. It's close to town's center, there are quite a few place where to go eating.. not close to the station, you'd better walk along "via Indipendenza" and there are lateral roads with some very good (they used to be, I miss from Bologna since long time, I can't guarantee none of them). In via indipendenza there was "Diana" restaurant which WAS one of the best place to eat in Bologna.

thank you so much for your reply. It does look reasonable and in my budget; thanks for the tip.

yes it is linea pelle show; and i am finding a hard time trying to get a hotel. The suggested hotel above is not available. If there any other suggestions for other hotels, i am happy to hear anything else you guys might suggest. what about hotel continental, or the ramada hotel?

Re: where to stay?

Continental is not in Bologna, good hotel for people with car (by public transport it's almost 2 hours, you must take a taxi and it will be expensive).
Ramada hotel (the one in via ferrarese) is not downtown but it is perfect for many reasons, don't wait, take it.

it's almost 2 hours.. I meant to go to exhibition.. with ramada could be a walk.

Travel Tips for Bologna

The City Gates

by croisbeauty

There were twelve so-called Porte (the city gates), in the medieval times of Bologna nine of which still exist. Actually, Porta was a part of the fortification, the watch tower and the entrance into the protected city area. By following the remaining gates, you can get idea how strong the circle-shape city walls were build.

Shoes for walking in city center

by Azhut about GEOX SHOP

This shop is dedicated to Geox shoes, is full of different models for every occasion. I recommend to choose a pair of this shoes to walk around Bologna. About 100 euros for a pair, confort and quality, honest prices.

I had so much fun I can hardly remember a thing

by jeffmartinartist about Il Cantinone L’Osteria

We traveled north to Bologna to stay with some dear friends that run a restaurant in Favignana during the summer. So I have no accommodation tips here. But I do have a whole lot of cards and several packs of matches from this restaurant that my friends took us to one night. We had so much fun I can’t really remember much, but the food was impressive and the venue was packed with non-tourists. So it might be worth trying and if you do please let me know how it was. My wife has just looked over my shoulder and reminded me that we ate a whole lot of regional dishes and apparently I was very impressed. So it looks like I will just have to go back. Shame that!

La Felina, naturally--where we...

by anne_h

La Felina, naturally--where we had our lunch! Which was 3 kinds of pasta: can't remember one of them, but the other two were tortellone with walnuts, and lasagna verde. Delicious. Then some salami and prosciutto, lemon sorbet for dessert, and then they broke out the limoncello of course! You'll need a car to get here, as it's out of the city center, up in the hills. Very pretty--too bad the weather wasn't better, we would have had a nice view.

Piazza 20th September

by darkjedi

If you are coming and going to Bologna this is one of the most interesting sites. On each quarter something different. The bus station, the train station, Scala della Montegnola and Porta Galliera.

In the center of the piazza at the moment is a vast temporary tent selling tens of thousands of books at up to 50% off. A great way to kill some time waiting for a bus or train and only one minute from both stations.
