Please let us know if you have trouble understanding the link above...but do work with it as it will help you understand the rail system in Italy. You can get both schedules and pricings with that website (the official website of the Italian rail system).

Note that there are two major stations in Venice: Venice Mestre and Venice Santa Lucia. You almost certainly want to go to Venice Santa Lucia, which is on the islands (Mestre is on the mainland...not far away, but not scenic)...

Anyway, let us know how you're doing with the website...

Travel Tips for Bologna

The other towers of Bologna

by croisbeauty

In the medieval times there were about 180 towers in Bologna, most of them built by the local noble families. Actually, it was a kind of competition among themselves in order to show the importance and the riches of particular family. Not much of the towers survived, besides most famous Asinelli and Garisenda, there are still remained the towers Prendiparte, Azzoguidi, Torresotto and few others of minor importance.

Dad's car and we are in Bologna!

I'm living in Ferrara thus it's not so far heading to Bologna for me indeed.. It was a cool saturday morning when we made our way Bologna lately.. Just 30 mins on Padova-Bologna A13 Highway and we are on the target point!

Feeling hungry??

by Fra.da. about Piadine in Bologna

If you go to Bologna, you really must try the tipical Piadina Romagnola. It's a kind of flat sandwich filled with ham, parmesan cheese, salad, tomatoes, mushrooms or what you like best! There are many "piadinerie" in Bologna. My fav one is located in the University area, via Zamboni, in front of Palazzo Malvezi (Law school) and just next to Le Scuderie (big University bar in via Zamboni). You can choose among a lot of different kind of piadine and coffee is included as well. The whole menu (piadine + soft drink or beer + coffee) costs around 5 €.

Sights

Bologna doesn't really stand out much in the line of Italian cities. The porticoed buildings and San Petronio are a sight, also check out Fontana di Nettuno which in my mind is one of the ugliest fountains in Italy.

Torre Asinelli

by vaara

For a spectacular view of Bologna, climb the claustrophobia-inducing staircase to the top of the 98-meter-tall Torre Asinelli, begun in 1109 and formerly used as a prison. Along with the adjacent and perilously leaning Torre Garisenda, it is one of the few remnants of a time when the Bologna skyline boasted over 100 towers.
