bus parking

by darcul

hello,

is there a official place to park a tourist bus? If not, where is the best place to park the bus?

Tnx

Re: bus parking

I think it would be the Parcheggio (car park) Parco Ferrari - entrance on Via Emilia Ovest (West); but you might have to ask the Modena tourist office, iatmo@comune.modena.it, contact details on http://turismo.comune.modena.it/index-en.php

Travel Tips for Modena

Palazzo Ducale

by croisbeauty

Ducal Palace is situated on the second largest square of the town, Piazza Roma, now housing the Molitary Academy.
The palace was begun in 1635 according to the wishes of Duke Francesco I d'Este, who engaged architect Bartolomeo Avanzini for the work. For over two centuries the building was the residential palace of Este family.
The old castlebuilt by Obizzo III in 1324 was incorporated in the new building.
Despite the fact that the palace was completed over long period of time, almost three centuries, its predominantly Baroque character.

Try and catch Modena City...

Try and catch Modena City Ramblers, the top Italian band in the eyes (ears) of yours truly. They combine Italian and Irish meloses, which (surprisingly) yields wonderfully energetic and heartfelt music. Learn more at www.ramblers.it, where the photo is originally located too.

San Domenico

by MM212

Located at its namesake piazza near il Palazzo Ducale, la Chiesa di San Domenico was built by the Dominican Friars upon their arrival in Modena in the 13th century. The actual structure, though, with its Baroque design, was a result of successive reconstruction and remodelling. The interior is quite interesting due to its oval shape and its oval dome. Tall marble columns of the Corinthian order surround the central nave, while large arches lead into the apse and side chapels. Originally, a Dominican monastery was adjacent to the church, but the departure of the Dominicans as a result of the Suppression, their monastery was converted into a Beaux-Arts academy. The church suffered some damage during WWII bombing, but it was subsequently restored.

Torre dell’Orologio

by von.otter

“Modena (anc. Mutina), capital of the former duchy of Modena, stands on a broad plain in Northern Italy, 23 miles by rail NW. of Bologna. Pop. (1881) 31,053; in commune, 58,058. It is surrounded with ramparts, now converted into promenades, and has fine streets, many of them areaded both sides.”
— from “Chamber’s Encyclopaedia: A Dictionary of Universal Knowledge” 1891

The 13th century wing and the 16th century wing of Modena’s Palazzi Comunali (City Hall) were connected by Torre dell’Orologio (Clock Tower); these new wings were blended by the means of a new facade and arcades constructed between the 17th to 19th centuries.

Chiesa di San Francesco

by croisbeauty

St. Francis Church was built in the 13th century in Gothic style by friars belonging to the order of "Frati minori conventuali", and was completely restored in 1828 according to the wishes of Duke Francesco IV d'Este.
The simple front facade is in terracotta and has a fine stone portal, surmounted by a fresco depicting the Saint. Above it, a large rose window.
