The remains of ancient Rome
In the province of Piacenza, in a beautiful landscape of low hills, it is possible to visit the remains of the Roman town of Veleia. It was discovered in 1747, many centuries after the town had been abandoned and forgotten.
There are documents about the existence of this Roman town, but nothing about why it was abandoned. In this area landslides are common, so this may be a reason. Landslides had covered the remains of Veleia and preserved them. There are not entire houses to see, like in Pompei, but just parts of walls, columns and floors. It is very interesting because it is very visible the design of streets, buildings, sewers. I found very interesting to see the system of central heating in the houses.
It is near the village of Lugagnano Val d’Arda.
