The station in Ravenna is bang in the centre of town and the town's not huge - click the first link on here for map showing both Hotel Byron and the station http://www.hotelbyron.com/ByronMap1eng.htm, or there's a Jolly Hotel even closer www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187806-d230397-Reviews-Jolly_Hotel_Ravenna-Ravenna_Emilia_Romagna.html.
To get to Mirabilandia you can go by train from Ravenna to Lido di Classe/Lido di Savio on the line to Ravenna, from where there is a shuttle bus that meets each train. For train times see www.trenitalia.it

Travel Tips for Ravenna

Outside from Ravenna you can...

Outside from Ravenna you can find “Basilica di S. Apollinare in Classe”. Near here there is the naturalistic sea side. Sometimes here you can find nude people, but only tourists go there. Ravenna’s inhabitants usually go to Marina di Ravenna, where there are normal sea side resourt. You can eat water melon too in the little shops in the street.
If you go to Marina di Ravenna every night in the summer you can drink something, listening to the music and dance in the sea.

Bikes

by iandsmith

There's one thing you'll notice in Ravenna. Bikes. Lots and lots of bikes. It is, without doubt, the number one form of transport around these parts.
Locals shop with them, take their children to school with them, visit friends with them or just go for a ride.

Tickets to other objects- at any object you buy one “visit card” it’s 7.50 euros, that’s your ticket to 6 objects. More about it you can find at : Ravenna Visit Card.
Entrance to Dante's Tomb is for free, Teodorico palace for free, Mausoleo di Teodorico reduced 1 euro. Lovely church San Apolinare in Classe, not far away by car or bus from Ravenna, on Sunday entrance is for free. Get a map for free in tourist office, in summer bike for free. Also visit the beach.

You can not forget to visit...

You can not forget to visit the town of Faenza, about 35 km west from Ravenna. It is a nice small town where I live from the 1992. Faenza is important also because it is the 'capital of the pottery'. In fact normally the pottery is also worldwide known with the name of 'faience'. Each year there is an international exhibition on pottery and artists from all over the world comes here to partecipate. There is also a very interesting International Museum of Pottery with a lot of pieces starting from the pre-historical age untill today. For example you will find there also a masterpiece created by Picasso! You can then visit some beautiful village in the hills around Faenza for istance Brisighella, a medioeval village, 15 km from Faenza, with a nice romanic church just outside the town.

San Vitale

by viddra

San Vitale is one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture and among the most important monuments of early Christian art in Italy. It’s needless to say that it’s one of the 8 Ravenna structures on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The church was founded by Bishop Ecclesio in 527, after his journey to Constantinople. Ravenna was at that time under the Ostroghots. The building was completed by another Ravennese bishop, Maximian, in 548. The name of its great architect is not known.
