The Surgeon's Domus
OK, this one I found out about only after I came back from Rimini so I didn't see it. But I consider it a Must-See. I don't have the photo of this either, but the picture shows the former Jesuit college viewed from Piazza Ferrari.
That piazza is where the Surgeon's Domus is. Gee, I passed through that square each time I went to the historic centre and I didn't know it! The Surgeon's house goes back to the 2nd century A.D. and it was discovered accidentally when uprooting a tree. Archeologists found polychrome mosaics, household items and coins, but also a complete set of surgeon's instruments and vessels for preparing medicines! It is apparently the most complete Roman period surgical collection ever found!
The site is open for visiting from June to September; other months it's on request by phoning the City Museum.
