The park
While there are city buses in Rimini, the most popular means of transport is the bicycle. You see them parked everywhere! This bike lot is at the Piazza Cavour but it is not the only one.
Another popular thing is the motor scooter. You wanna watch out when strolling around Rimini: guys on scooters appear out of nowhere just in time when you want to cross the street!
Rimini's finest building, the Tempio Malatestiano was built as a Franciscan church in the 13th century before being converted in 1450 by Leon Battista Alberti, the great Florentine architect, into one of Italy's great Renaissance monuments. The work was commissioned by Sigismondo Malatesta (1417-68), a descendant of Rimini's ruling medieval family, as a memorial tomb for his family and although building work began in 1447 it was still incomplete on his death. Inside the Tempio Malatestiano are sculptures of lovely cherubs by Agostino di Duccio and a fresco (1451) by Piero della Francesca of Malatesta kneeling before St Sigismund. The Malatestrian family emblem of elephants are depicted in various scenes in the church.
