Rimini questions

by magictravelers

Hello fellow travelers:

We usually plan our trips ahead of time and post after we have an idea of the city we are visiting. This time, due to health reasons, we haven´t been able to search at all, and we have a lot of questions! S O S

We are traveling to Forli on Sept 12th. Javi has a ournament on the 13th and 14th and then we stay until Mon 22nd. We want to do tourims from Monday 15th to the 22nd. After reading some questions posted on this page, we have an idea of things to do those days.
But here is where we neeed help:

1. We need a cheap/decent hostel in Rimini from the 12th-15th

2. Does Ryan air have transportation to Bolognia? (We know there is to Rimini)

3. Would be worth staying at Balonia the days we want to do tourims instead of Rimini? We are not drinkers and we are from Barcelona, so we have beach all over. In case the aswer is yes:

4 cheap/decent hostel in Bolongnia

5 Is there some sort of train/bus discount to travel by train to
Ravena, Ferrara, Madena, etc?

6 Discount for disabled? (86% disability) on buses/trains/ castles, etc

Thanks a lot. I know more questions will come up, but these are the main ones

Gracias to all!

For hostels look at www.hostelworld.com and www.venere.com (this is an excellent and reliable site with honest reviews used by many VT-ers).

I'm not quite sure what you mean about Ryanair. Transport from where? There are Ryanair flights to Bologna from Barcelona. Look at www.whichbudget.com or www.harefares.com for budget carriers and their destinations.

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

will give you train times and fares in English. Rimini to Bologna by train takes about from just over an hour to 1h 45m, depending on train time. Standard one-way fare is 6.80 euro.

I am not aware of any disability (or other) discount for train/bus, but you may find that Rimini and Bologna offer 24-hour tickets for public transport (not train) which are cheaperthan buying separate tickets.

My aunts and uncle usually stay at Hotel Clitunno. It's not an expensive hotel. Try to google a bit for the web page of this hotel.

Hotels are not always expensive in Florence and Bologna. I think you may have (unfortunately) hit on dates which are especially busy for some reason (e.g. an exhibition).

Having said that, there are plenty of reasonably-priced hotel rooms on www.booking.com and www.venere.com for Florence....it is Bologna which has clearly had a price hike for those dates.

You might look at hotels in Pisa; it's only an hour from Florence by (frequent) train.

For trains from Rimini you can look at

http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

as before. Although September dates may not yet be loaded train times and fares will not change much, if at all.

Rimini>Florence takes from just over 2 hours, one-way fare from 36 euro. Rimini>Ravenna takes around an hour, one-way fare from 3.80 euro.
Rimini > San Marino is too long for a daytrip, at over 5 hours. One-way fare is from 25.25 euro.

You can visit San Marino as a daytrip from Rimini. There are buses outside the train station in Rimini as far as I know.

Re: Rimini questions

Maurizio is absolutely right. In this rare case, bus is much faster than train (which presumably takes a 'circular' route and involves at least two changes).

Sadly, I can't find the bus timetable. It's linked here:

http://www.bonellibus.it/portale/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=79&Itemid=55

but the timetable pdf has an error and will not display the data.

As far as I can tell from googling elsewhere, the journey (bus 72?) takes about 45 minutes and there are 9 or so departures daily. Return ticket is perhaps 8 euro but if you use the 'prenotazione online' button on the page I've linked you'll be able to find the exact price.

You can book tickets online (or buy in advance from Rimini ticket outlets) if you want to be sure of a seat on a particular departure.

Travel Tips for Rimini

Strolling in the back streets

by gosiaPL

I've no idea where this was, maybe somewhere in the area between the Piazza Cavour and the Tiberio's bridge, but it wasn't a major street. I like the old wall with the ivy on it!

If you want to see the "real" old Rimini - the hometown, and not just the tourist place - stroll around the historic centre and go into as many streets as you have the time for. It's really worth cutting your time on the beach to see what most tourists miss :-)

Check also the beautiful old villas closer to the sea in the vicinity of Fellini Park!
