"Enjoy the Golden Sandy Beaches"
Lignano Sabbiadoro is a small city full of various entertainments and facilities for your vacation and is an important tourist center of Friuli Venezia Giulia region; this region is surrounded in the North by the Alps and the border with Austria, in the South by the Adriatic coast, and on the East by the border with Slovakia.
Lignano is situated on the peninsula washed by the Adriatic seacoast. The greatest asset that Lignano has is its 8 kilometer long beach, which seems to reflect the warm gold colors of the sun.
I went to Lignano Sabbiadoro in Oct 2005 with skeptical thoughts. I have never heard of Lignano before but apparentyly it is very popular with Austrians and Germans tourists who like to go there in the warmer and summer months to enjoy the Adriatic sea and its sandy beaches.
From what I see, Lignano is a resort city with many hotels lining the long stretch of beautiful sandy beaches. These hotels set up the deck chairs and beach umbrellas on their portion of the beaches for their hotel guests to enjoy the sea and sun.
If you are not a hotel guest, you will be required to pay a fee for using the deck chairs and beach umbrellas.
"When to Visit"
I believe the best time to visit would be before and after the peak tourist season, which would be May/June and September/October. You can have your choice of hotels facing the beach. You don't have to find for your space on the beach. You can enjoy the sun, sea and sand in peace and tranquility.
Sure, it might not be as hot as the summer months, but it will still be sunny and warm enough to laze around and get a good tan.
"Walk Into the Sunset"
After you get tired of lazing around on the beach and you feel you need some exercise, go for a walk along the long sandy beach. Wade into the water, the mini-lagoons by the beach, try to see some little crabs running around on the sands, and curl your toes into the wet sands.
Walking along the beach by late afternoon, and way into the sunset, is a great way to end a day of sunbathing and swimming in the sea. A good exercise is good to whet your appetite for the dinner time.
Lignano has a few good italian restaurants, a few metres from the surrounding beach hotels.
