Do not look at the Eurail site. Eurail is not a train operator. It is a ticketing agency, charges commiassion and fares and does not list all departures (Raileurope is the same).

For train times and details in English look at:

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml

which lists almost all European train information, regardless of country.

The Croatian railway website in English is:

http://www.hznet.hr/iSite3/Default.aspx?sec=80

but you may have difficulty finding fares. These are, however, extremely reasonable.

Croatian railways are perfectly safe, as are all trains in Europe.

You might find this page has useful information:

http://www.seat61.com/Croatia.htm

Scroll down the page to find information about trains and tickets for journeys within Croatia.

If you are going to visit Trieste maybe it's usefull knowing that this card exists if you want to use it. It costs 8 euros for 1 day or 10 euros for 2 days and it encludes transportation (bus and boat), some museums admission, grotta gigante, sightseen tours and deals. Biggest and Best - Piazza Unita D'Italia

by Ekaterinburg

This was definitely my favourite place in Trieste. I love big squares and they don't come much bigger than this. It's absolutely vast and naked of any ornamentation in the centre, which gives an incredible feeling of spaciousness. You can ride a bike here ( with no hands, if you're a smooth Italian male) walk a dog, push a baby sit or stroll, as many older people are doing. In front of the Town Hall, is the Fountain of the Four Continents and every time I passed by, this was occupied by bunches of pigeon-chasing children. But because of the huge area, it's impossible to make this square look crowded and it seems like you can enjoy it in almost solitary splendour. Along the sides are neo-classical Palaces, all of them impressive but one of them, Palazzo Del Governo, gilded in gold frescoes, absolutely beautiful. The civic building at the head of the square has a more ornamnetal facade than the others and a magnificent clock tower. The other end of the square opens directly onto the blue Adriatic, with cruise ships and cranes in plain view. A most unusual and beautiful city square.

The Giant Cave

by MATIM

The tour through the Cave takes about an hour.
A guide lead you through the cave, make sure you wear suitable shoes for all the stairs you have to go up and down.

It is recommendable to wear warm close, cause it is very cold in the Cave, even if it is 30 degrees outside :-)

Castello Miramare

by Carnation

Castle in the air This splendid snow-white castle is a museum entrusted to the Sovrintendenza ai Monumenti and its halls are open to the public. The building resides in a wonderful park where you will discover many interesting features such as the pond of swans and lotus flowers and many types of trees.

The Town Hall

by croisbeauty

An eclectic construction of extreme interest by Giuseppe Bruni (1877). Nineteenth century buildings line up the two sides of the piazza, such as the Palazzo Modello by Bruni, the Casa Stratti, the Palazzo del Governo, the Lloyd Triestino and, finally, the most natable Baroque building in Trieste, namely the Palazzo Pitteri.
