Marta.: A nice bed and breakfast .

This bed and breakfast occupies part of a floor in a old palace. It is made of several rooms with bathroom or without bathroom en suite.

I had a nice room with bathroom en suite. The bed was comfortable and there was a big screen satellite television.

The buffet at breakfast consisted mostly of packed pastries. There was also bread, jam and butter. You have to help yourself from a machine to have hot drinks as coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate. These were good.

November 2014; update. Last time I booked a room there I was asked to pay 80 euro for a double room (with bathroom en suite) with breakfast. I think this price is quite expensive for a simple bed and breakfast as Marta' s is.

There is a lift. The bed and breakfast is on the second floor of a building.

It is some 10-15 minutes by foot from the train station.

Ostello Tergeste: Fancy Hostel Along Shore

This is the best hostel that we have found in northern Italy. It is location, location....right along the shore, but away from the crowded city and near Castle Miramar by minutes. Yes, our room had bunkbeds, but amazingly the bed had wonderful support and we slept so well! The rooms are clean, and quiet, several floors for visitors, with 5 rooms on a floor. The owner is there all the time to greet you at the door, and there is also a great restaurant next to the hostel. They give a price of 10 euros for a three course meal, if you go early. Take advantage of this at least once!
Price for two people for two nights with a simple breakfast was 92 euros.
When you think of hostels, this is not your typical one. Consider staying here.
Parking in the summer is a bit hard, but after 7:00 the swimmers go home and it is easier. There is a bus stop nearby, and you can walk to Miramar if you like exercise.
Seating in the restaurant is very pleasant, shaded, and the view of the sea can't be beat.

Beds with GREAT support. Bathroom clean. Small table in corner, lockers for belongings in the room, and showers with plenty of hot water.
The hostel has a wonderful view of the sea, much better than a hotel in the crowded city. This is a good choice for people who do not need luxurious furnishings.
You will see lots of older people staying here as they have heard it is a good place to stay in Trieste.
PRICE IS AVERAGE COMPARED TO OTHER HOSTELS....

Horsefarm: a real agriturismo

If you are tired of Italian false "agriturismi", where there is nothing connected with agricoluture and if you are willing to stay near Trieste but far from the traffic and in the middle of the countryside, this place can be suitable for you. Horsefarm is a real agricolture enterprise, which manage also some guestrooms and a restaurant. Room are very lovely, big enough, with bathroom and a nice wooden roof. The owner is very helpful and can give you directions to the main sighseeing acitivies. On the contrary, if you are willing to stay in Trieste and visit the city, you'd better choose something else (that's why my satisfaction degree was somewhat unsatisfied).

They can organize horse riding trips and you can help in the enterprise, if you are willing to.

Gaudemus: Cheap and cheap

My favorite restaurant in Trieste has also some rooms for overnights ... small rooms, trying to have a kind of style but not really successfull.
It is ok just cause th eprice is really competitive.

Well, you can taste all the wonderful wines & spirits of the restaurant without problems for your driving license !!

Camp Obelisco: Hip

Perched on hilltop in Opicina overlooking downtown Trieste, the campsite offers sustenance for the soul -- peace and quiet in a rustic setting. There seems to be some long-term stayers; their caravans looking worn and gardens established. I've noticed a large birdcage, with a little feathered friend, fastened on one of the 'hippie' vans. Some interesting folk to meet, and the campsite owners are warm and friendly.

Follow the hilly pathway, out of the campsite, and in 5 minutes you'll see a breathtaking view of Trieste. Bertoloni Woods -- Burgstaller Bidischini -- 6.6317 hectares of Austrian pine, Hornbeam and Oak, with good trails, is located right next to the 'Obelisk'.

BED AND BREAKFAST CHIARA: Personal Police Protection

I would recommend this to anyone on a budget who doesn't mind walking a few extra steps [uphill] to this out-of-the-way address. You will be rewarded by getting to know Manuela and her family, a bonus we hadn't expected. As we were the only tenants at the time, Manuela gave us the entire 2nd floor of her house [see her website] and stocked the kitchen with food for us [and showed us how to make real coffee]. She is a full-time police officer so she wasn't around to make breakfast for us but we really liked her system because it didn't force us to be on an eating schedule.

We had full private bath, complete kitchen, balcony with nice view

Definitely out of the downtown mainstream but not an isolated location that leaves you stranded in a strange city.

Adria B&B: Just what we needed

At last a B&B where you feel like home. The best room on our trip, and the best view.
A very pleasant and relaxing stay in a beautiful location, with good weather, nice hiking and very friendly and accomodating hosts! Delightful place. A true B&B in every sense of the word. We look forward to returning.

This place is better than the website promises. But the real beauty and magic lie not in the glorious views, the wonderful coastline, nor the excellent breakfasts. The richest part of a stay here is the warmth and generosity of marvelous hosts.

Adria Bed & Breakfast: Low price for excellent quality

Two friends of mine stayed four nights in what they describe as the most romantic of the b&b around Trieste... - can't disagree. They had breakfasts on a well-furnished, large, shared terrace with lots of bougainvilles, hibiscus, palms and other mediterranean and tropical plants and beautiful views on the istrian coast on the opposite side of the Gulf, and the countryside.
The place has very stylish quite modern interiors.
Breakfast - they said - was varied and abundant, very fresh and very good, and they had a very enjoyable time.
The owners supplied maps, leaflets and brochures.Pretty much faultless, highly recommended.

Beautifully styled, romantic, very spacious, breakfast on the beatiful southern terrace, very friendly service from the young owners, great location in pretty village fairly close to the best stretch of the Costa Triestina.

For 42 euros per night my friends had an elegant double room with bathroom en suite, tv and free wireless internet spot for their laptop

Beautifully located for leisurely walks ( the Rilke Promenade, Castle Duino and the Natural Reserve of Duino's Cliff ). Last but not least the beautiful beaches at walking distance.

Bus Stop from/to Airport (2 €), Trieste Central Station (2€), Castle Miramare (1,55 €) , Grado (2,80 €) and more, at 150 mts.

From Trieste or Airport, catch the line #51 and let you stop at Sistiana Camping, then walk about 150 mts. to the B&B.

Villaggio del Fanciullo: Accomodation for free

Villaggio del Fanciullo ("Child village") is a structure in Opicina, outside Trieste, run by a priest (Don Roberto) for the entertainment of children, that takes especially care of young boys and girls with handicaps or other problems. There are tennis courts and other facilities for them to have fun.
So, it is not a hotel or a youth hostel. Nevertheless, it has a small building with two rooms that the village can rent to foreigners for some nights and this absolutely for free! I slept there some times in autumn 2004, when I had to stay in Trieste for some exams, but I hadn't got my flat any more. The rooms are quite comfortable. However, when I was there, the flusher of the WC didn't function properly. Another problem is that mobile phones usually don't receive the signal of Italian operators, but only that of Slovenian telephone societies, because Opicina lies very close to the border.

Furlan Giordano: Bargain B & B

This is a pretty good bargain accommodation. The room was nice and clean with a good modern bathroom and shower en suite. The location is about a 10 minute walk from the train or bus station and about that to the central commercial area around Piazza Oberdan which is also a major public transportation hub. A double was about 60 EUR for 2 and included breakfast although the breakfast was pretty basic and nothing to write home about - good coffee, bread with butter and jam and some sort of carbonated orange drink.
Our room was on the 4th (5th in US terms) floor and there is no lift so it is a bit of a hassle getting luggage up.

One quirk is that the owner lives offsite so must be called to meet you there. This was not a problem as he was there witin about 10 minutes and is a most cordial man.

The building itself is somewhat old with a massive and I think attractive street entrance and a magnificently decorated domed entryway.
