Excellent Find On Short Notice

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 19, 2015

In 2011, we made a booking for one night at this Hotel, at short notice. We added Trieste to our itinerary when we were in Slovakia, and making changes to an original idea due to impractical train times. We came to Trieste by bus from Slovenia. And we departed Trieste by train for Venezia.

It is with regret that we did not have more time in Trieste, because it was beautiful, and, it is, in our opinion, a very underrated Italian destination.

It has its own "Grand Canal", not as grand as that of Venezia, but still nice, nonetheless. Trieste has a really beautiful waterfront which is quite stunning as the sun is setting. The whole history and its proximity to Slovenia make Trieste unique, and there are some well preserved Roman ruins which are good to look at by day and night.

At short notice we booked this accommodation through www.booking.com but I have noticed that they also have their own website through which bookings can be made. Look for specials.

We got a good discount, and we were very pleased with this bargain find.

It was in walking distance from the bus and the train stations. We walked around everywhere, that evening and in the morning prior to checking out.

The staff were very friendly, and the facilities were lovely, and clean.
They offer free wifi and breakfast.

We recommend this accommodation. And we recommend spending more than one night in Trieste!

The five star one star hotel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

A friendly efficient small hotel that perhaps more accurately could be called a hostel-but don't let that put you off.
Very central-two minute walk from thr Grand Canal and ten minutes from the adjacant bus and train terminals.
Very clean- some folks think this is important-and reasonably priced. I took a double with private shower toilets etc plus satellite TV: at least it's got Eurosport and I certainly don't want or need to know what's going on in the world when on holiday.

Prices also include breakfast-juice crossants rolls cream cheese cereals yogurt coffee.
Coffee was from a Nescafe machine. If you prefer a larger cup of black to expresso hit the expresso button twice then hit the aqua.

Don't know the single room rate but I paid 72 Euros per night for my excellent double.

Another tip. Tired from travelling first night I had a nap about 5pm. When I woke up the sun was shining through my window so decided to go eat. It was 3am! The street lighting on Via Roma consists of massive lightbulbs attached to the buildings. At number 13 that was directly outside my window. Needless to say I really did enjoy breakfast at 7am that morning.
My advice? Shut the shutters as well as curtains. Enjoy.

Unique Quality: No great views unless you count hanging out the window in the morning watching the suckers-sorry- workers- trudging along towards their personal hell.

Directions: Right from stations. Left Jolly Hotel-Via Roma two blocks. Turn right- Nuevo on left.
Or
Pass Jolly- sea on right- left at Grand Canal- Via Roma 2nd St on left. Bridge with figure of Irish writer James Joyce is continuation of Via Roma.

A Decent, Cheap Place to Stay

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 8, 2007

This pension is in the newer part of town, close to the railway station but still far enough away from it that it is not in a sleazy part of town. The clientele is primarily English-speaking and the staff at the hotel speak English well. Breakfast is included in the cost of the room, which is 30 euro per person. Breakfast includes coffee, pastries and cereal. The rooms are basic but comfortable, with single beds, sinks, a desk and a commode. The washrooms were clean and large (although you have to share them with quite a few people) and the shower worked beautifully. It was surprisingly quiet and I was able to sleep the entire night without being woken up at all, which is rather surprising for a pension in Italy.

Unique Quality: Really, the value for your money is the best part of this pension. It is only a five minute walk from the Grand Canal and a ten minute walk from the train station, making it easy for you to get around wherever you're going.

Directions: Near the railway station

A great hotel for the price

This was a 1* hotel near the grand canal in Trieste. It was basic, €25 each for a double room with a sink and a fan. The bathroom was shared but the hotel didn't seem very busy so we never had to wait for someone else to get out of it.
Although they say they take travellers cheques, they won't.
Breakfast was included and was pastries / toast and coffee.

Unique Quality: Other than its handiness, the room was quite big and it had a fan so it was cool at night.

Directions: near the grand canal
