Working village
"Perched on top"
Looks small from here-but the village is fair sized at 8,500 residents, and streets mostly inclines upward when going up-obviously. Located in what is called Alta Maremma. it is a working town that has a strong tie to mining of pyrite in the hills surrounding. The castle and land around the town were under control of Pannocchieschi family in 13th century.
"Where to park"
We found a spot outside the wall-since believe we could not get in to park on inside. Walked the side stairs to enter from the street. The fortress walls are imposing and surround the town. Entering the town to park is restricted to locals.
"Wonderful Views of the Area"
The hill top allows for good views of the area. It sits on top a a hill crest and you can see for miles. It was a good vantage point to protect from enemies back in those days.
