Upon my arrival to Naples, I stayed at a motel which had natural warm springs running through the center of it. My brother called it 'the lukewarm pool'. But, it is there for your swimming pleasure and certainly open to Americans - I'm just not sure about civilians...

I stayed at the Rockefeller's special center and it was so wonderful, 2 buildings are right on the lake, one a historic villa, is up on the hill. But these are not for the general public. If you are a PhD, or an artist, you can apply to Rockefeller to stay here and work in the summer for several weeks -- see their website. A few of the people I brought here, came a day early or stayed on so I have a short list of hotels. The first one, the Grand Hotel, i s a luxury hotel. It's worth a visit just to see the decor, because Bellagio seems to have been a historic vacation spot, and the hotel retains a lot of its charm and furnishings. You can have a drink there, just for the atmosphere and then stay at a hotel with a more reasonable price. 170 euros for a deluxe room, including breakfast
AN UNHAPPY EXPERIENCE... While the place is beautiful and has some great views from the rooms of the Umbrian hills, we found the manager to be an arrogant and rude man. Having arrived after a long day of touring Assisi, and having already enjoyed a great lunch, I only wanted something light for dinner. I ordered an appetizer and a pasta dish as my main course. The manager (who translated the menu for us) commented on my choice with more than a hint of condescension: 'How American.' His attitude seemed to filter down to other members of his staff during our stay. Editorial comment: when I am someone's guest, it is the role of my host to make me feel comfortable and at home. It is irrelevant whether he approves or disapproves of what I want to eat. Theme: InnComparison: most expensiveDirections: Villa di Monte Solare, Colle S. by ukirsari In Milan, I prefer The Sina Hotel, very close to Piazza de Duomo. Then at Venezia, I stay in a hotel near Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's square) --the heart of tourism in this city. The hotel name's Tulip Inn Scandinavia. Theme: HotelDirections: * Sina Hotel; close to the Piazza de Duomo and Piazza Filippo Meda. * Tulip Inn Scandinavia; close to the Saint Mark Square and Sancta Maria de Formosa Church.

In Sorrento, for luxury, you can't beat the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Rates on the web site indicate 230EU and up per night
High on a cliff overlooking the coastal beach. Ornate with rooms in the hotel and little individual rooms with private gardens toward the water. You take an elevator down to the beach and to catch the boat to Capri. Pool and other amenities. You can see Mt. Vesuvius from here! I'll be very honest! The best way to go is to rent an apartment or villa and work from there. It provides you a greater amount of flexibility. You can cook when you want and what you want? Phone service is up to you. Most have washer and dryer so there is not wasting of time sitting and watching your time and money go in a laundramat. We got all of our information from Firenze.net. It's a fanatastic site with piles of usable information. Check it out! By the way, our apartment was a 2 bedroom that was on Piazza San Giovanni and literally, looked out on the Bapistry and the Duomo. Fantastic location for when the cardinals come to speak at the Duomo.
Prices are great and you can pick and choose size, location and ammentities! Theme: OtherAddress: firenze.net has all of the information you need!
