Getting to Rome from Civitavecchia

by SkinnyMalinx

Can someone tell me the easiest way to get to Rome from Civitavecchia? How long will it take to get there ... how much time should we allow for "in case time"? Is there a bus as well as a train? If there is, which is the better option? Are the train/bus stations close to the cruise terminal? Thank You :-o))

In my opinion, the best and most direct option is to take the train.
There is a train station in the town of Civitavecchia with several trains per hour going to Rome. Local trains take you to Rome's central station (Roma Termini) in about an hour and 20 minutes. Faster trains can make it in under an hour. The station is close to the entrance of the port, but quite a distance from where passengers usually disembark.

Cruise passengers can catch a shuttle to the entrance of the port and walk 4 blocks to the train station. You may want to consider taking a taxi from the port entrance if you are carring luggage.

In the times when the Italian State Railways let passengers travel with their freight train ferries to Golfo Aranci they actually had a minibus taking the passengers between the port and the railway station, so some means of transport could be advisable.

I don't think the train could be a good solution.
The train station is more than half a mile from the main entrance of the port where you will find a free shuttle to the different doks.
The port of Civitavecchia is big ( 25 ship-gates)and walk with your staffs is not really the best solution.
I think you can find a private transportation from your hotel in Rome directly to the ship for 120 euros and maybe less if you need a round trip.
I can suggest you the Plus High Service Company or other companies.
You can contact them to info@romelimousineplus.com or visit their website.

"Civitavecchia"

Civitavecchia is the seaport for Rome, Italy. The city is about 1 hour 10 minutes from Rome's Termini Station by commuter train.

The port of Civitavecchia was originally founded by the Roman Emperor Traiano as the gateway to the city of Rome, and it is still referred to as the ‘Port of Rome’ although it is located around 60 kilometres away. It is the central hub for all maritime traffic going through the area, and has recently incorporated an up-to-date transport system linking with railways, motorways and airports to help passengers continue on their journey.

The harbour is also integral to the areas tourist industry in helping visitors access the capital city and the rest of the Mediterranean. It is one of the most popular destinations for luxury cruise liners touring the region.
