Rent an Apartment: For a Two-Month Stay...

In 1997, Allan & I went to Italy for the first time, and we stayed for 68 days! We found an advertisement in the Chicago Tribune Classified Section that advertised an apartment for rent in Gaeta, Italy.

Well, we had no idea where Gaeta was so we did some research; we found, to our delight, that it was on the coast between Rome and Naples. We made the arrangements with Lloyd & Mora (he is American, and she is Italian {from Venice}). We rented the apartment for $800.00 per month, which we felt was more than fair.

This apartment building faces the Gaeta Bay, and Gaeta itself sits on the southern headland of the gulf of Gaeta, overlooked by Monte Orlando. The ancient part of Gaeta (where our apartment was) is dominated by an Argones castle which was being renovated when we were there.

We were on the 4th floor, & there were 2 bedrooms, one and a half baths, small kitchen, Living Room/Dining Room combination, & a small balcony. There was a washing machine in the half bath, & I hung the clothes out on the retractable line outside the balcony.

From our windows we looked out on Gaeta Bay on one side and the Bell Tower on the other...magnificent.

The apartment was located in a perfect spot in the ancient portion of Gaeta and in the center of everything. The grocery store, bread store, bakery, the produce market, a pizza place, several restaurants, and the Civic Center were within a block or two of our apartment.

In addition, we could walk about two blocks and catch the bus to the new part of Gaeta with all the stores and restaurants.

We leased a car, and there was free parking in the Civic Center parking lot. Perfecto!

Below the apartment was the wonderful Cappuccino Bar that I visited daily.
It was the best of the best.

Agenzia Immobiliare LA ROCCA / La Rocca Agency: Self Catering Holiday Vacation Villas & Apartments

We rented a Self Catering Holiday Villa, through the La Rocca Agency / Agenzia Immobiliare La Rocca for the summer of 2005.

The villa was set in the peace and quiet of the beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Itri.

Yet it was just a short drive down to Gaeta and the coast.

The villa was clean, well maintained and well equipped.

We found this company to be:

Well run, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Their properties were well inspected and reasonably priced.

An added bonus is that some of the staff there speak English.

Ask for Michele or Maria Antonietta.

Some of these villas are set in scenic mountain countryside with wonderful panoramic views.

They also have a selection of properties For Sale in the Itri / Gaeta / Sperlonga / Formia area.

If in Gaeta the place to stay...

If in Gaeta the place to stay is SERAPO HOTEL. The hotel stands at the end of Serapo Beach. It is set in the midst of a quiet and peaceful green at the foot of the secular pine-forest of Montagna Spaccata (Cracked Mountain). The hotel is open all year round and has all the comforts of home. It is reasonably priced.

Indoor pool, tennis, bowling, gardens and large veranda overlooking the sea.

Flamingo Hotel: Best and Cheapest Hotel in Gaeta

Flamingo Hotel was great. We paid 70 Euro a night for 2. the room had aShower plenty of closets. King bed, Sat TV, Hair/Body dryer, Desk, a Balcony that overlooked the pool with shades to pull down to keep out the evening heat. It has a full workout room and water arobics and a small soccer field next to the pool for the kids. Its situated about 5 blocks (5 Minute walk from Serapo beach. Flamngo hotel is super clean it seamed there was always someone cleaning.
Accross the street there is a laundry and little stores for fresh fruits and Drinks.
BEWARE all stores in Italy are closed noon to 5pm

At night, 7:30pm till ? the pool area turns into an outdoor resturant with your average Italian foods (Pizza etc) and the chef has a new menu every night like Spaghette and clams or muscle, baked fish and it was SOOO GOOOD, wine, water, personal wait staff that was just awsum. cost was about 25-35 Euro for 2 we put our food tab on our bill. The Pizza is just Fabulous!!! Real Italian Brick oven baked pizza.
