train lines

by AngelNY

I need to go from Tiburtina to Ostia Antica. Any ideas???

Re: train lines

by Lacristina

Yes, it's easy. Take the Rome Metro Line B at Tiburtina until the stop Piramide (pronounced peer RAH me day). Exit the station, turn left, and take the Lido train (it's right next to the metro lines), get off at the seventh stop, Ostia Antica. Cross the blue pedestrian bridge over the roadway, continue straight ahead, then follow the signs. Less than 10 minute walk from the station. It should take less than an hour.

It is indeed easy.

Train journey to Ostia Scavi is around 30 minutes, as I recall.

If you have a travelpass it will cover the train as well.

Travel Tips for Rome

The Museum

by buzzz

The Vatican Museum is vast. When you get inside and to the top of the escalator, through the turnstiles turn right to go into the Pinacoteca. Most of the crown go left following signs for the Sistine Chapel but they miss out on fantastic art masterpieces such as Raphael's Transfiguration which he was working on when he died aged 37 and his students had to finish the base. Also Caravaggio's Depostition. (see pic)

Aventino

by puerto_lover

The Orange Garden or PARCO DEGLI ARANCI on the top of the Aventine Hill overlooking the river and adjoining the Dominican Basilica of Santa Sabina is one place that is great for a picnic. There is a view point towards St Peters and the City and Trastevere.
Just further along past Santa Sabina where the road bends, there is a wide open area with imposing gates. They lead to the Grand Priory of Rome, the Embassy of the Order to the Holy See and the Embassy of the Order to the Italian Republic of the The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta, better known as the Sovereign Order of Malta.

The Knights of Malta elected Matthew Festing as their Grand Master in 2008 following the death of fellow Andrew Willoughby Ninian Bertie.

At the imposing gates there are often tourists who have been tempted to literally look through the keyhole. The architect of the Villa and gardens was Piranesi (1720-1778) who is buried in the church next door - Santa Maria del Priorato. The view is remarkable as you see down a line of evergreens to the Basilica of St Peters.

i just got back from rome and went on a pub crawl that started outside the colosseum. there were about 30 people and fortunately,me and my room mate janis were the only americans, and it was nice to meet so many people from around the world. there was a group of danish students and a lot of aussies and kiwis. anyway, we went to 5 great pubs with live music and dancing. thanks to bubba and steve, you guys rock!! if u guys ever come to detroit give me a call, i'll show u around. P.S Hey Steve, i still remember that body shot contest, man you are wild!

Restauranrt near colossem

by freethinker

So far I heard that food at the popular tourist spots costs a few extra euro. Yes, it is true. But in the first day of our tour we experienced an exception to that. Just come outside of the metro stn colosseo and you will found this pizza bar. You will get freshly preapared Italian pizza , pasta or anything there and as it is not a formal one and all the seating arrangement is outside (roadside ) you don't have to pay the extra chrage for alfresco. Moreover the colossal flavian amphithetre(and the arch of Constantine:at a small distance) is just at your side..........it is simply stunning.
we had two pizzas and a bottle of beer and it cost only 20 euro. I had the mushroom and tomato pizza.
Husband:salami and mozzarella one.
Both were equally tasty

Great spot inside or out

by Paisleypaul about CRISCIOTTI al Boschetto

I think the CRISCIOTTI are a restaurateur family with more than one ristorante, there is a Fratelli Crisciotti in the Termini area I believe
Nice internally there is also the garden described as giardino interno - you can eat outdoors within a four walled courtyard.
We shared an antipasto misto and had fish and steak mains. Service was good, the bread on the table was good, good house white........everything really.
Not cheap - Euros are not cheap by the dollar or the pound at the moment - but not outrageous either.
Deserts - a surprise and great presentation; see auxiliary picture! The coconut ice cream served in a half coconut shell (click picture!)
