The Best of Everything

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 15, 2004

I was pleased with the location, the quality and the price. You just can't beat the Campo di Fiori for a central location.

I found the single with shared bath pleasant. Clean bathrooms with easy access.

Unique Quality: OK - even without all that, the rooftop terrace is worth so much. I would buy wine, cheese, salami, whatever (!) and enjoy it on the rooftop at sunset. It was peaceful and beautiful. An old man smiles and waves at me while pruning the geraniums in his window box.

This hotel was fabulous. I would definitely recommend it. The hotel staff was very friendly, spoke English (a plus but not always necessary), and were always willing to do what they can to make your stay comfortable. Each room had a TV, closet, and bedstand. The bathrooms had standing showers, a bidet, and a toilet.

Fodors.com reccomendation:
Built on the ruins of the ancient Theater of Pompey, in the very heart of the timeless Campo dei Fiori area, this little gem has one of the quaintest multilevel terraces in old Rome; stunning views are guaranteed. The atmosphere is cozy -- with open-beam ceilings and old-fashioned furnishings -- and there are modern comforts, including an elevator. Rooms are set out in simple pensione style, featuring early-20th-century wardrobes and veneer bed frames. www.solealbiscione.it. 58 rooms, 26 with bath. Cable TV, parking (fee); no a/c in some rooms. No credit cards.

Unique Quality: It is located in the Campo di Fiori so you are always in the heart of things. It is a 15-20 minute walk to St.Peters...a beautiful walk that takes you by the Tiber River. There is a farmers' market every morning except Sunday and lots of shops, great shops. Breakfast every morning at the corner cafe. Hotel staff is very friendly.
