Where toBuy Boots/Shoes & Trendy Clothes for Men in Rome?
by Skymagic
I will be in Rome soon and would like to know where the average Italian guy buys boots/shoes and trendy clothes in Rome. I am not looking for the high end priced things, just decently made and well-fitting things.
Your suggestions will be appreciated.

Skymagic,
There are many good clothing/shoes shops on Via Cola di Rienzo that is where locals go for good shopping (no big names but good quality and good value for money). This is quite a long street that goes from Piazza del Popolo to Piazza Risorgimento (near the Vatican).
For "alternative" stuff I would also suggest to check Via del Governo Vecchio (near Piazza Navona) and the little tiny streets (Via dei Baullari, Via dei Giubbonari, etc..) around Campo de'Fiori area also not far from Navona Square.
However the best shopping area is still around the Spanish Steps. Most of the designer's stores are on Via Condotti but you will find several less expensive good places on other streets around there (Via della Croce, Via Belsiana, Via Frattina, Via Borgognona, Via del Babuino, Via Vittoria,etc..). By the way "Via" means street in Italian!!
Regards,
Antonio

Travel Tips for Rome
We went to Rome last Christmas...
by Audrey118
We went to Rome last Christmas (on Year 2000) - and as it was the Holy Year (once every 25 years), and we vouched to visit the Vatican City to go through the St Peter's Basalica Holy Door.
We started the day early, and there was hardly anyone when we reached there.
So we walked through the door, and went to every part of the huge church and on our way out, there was a little sign that showed the way to the top of the church.
We decided to get there, and took a little lift up and managed to see at close proximity of the most detailed painting on the dome. After that we saw another sign pointing upwards, so we decided to take a look.
It was an extremely narrow flight of windy stairs and we sort of hunch to get the way up. All the way up I was sighing like mad, telling myself what torture I am going through.
When we finally reached the exit, it was right on top of the dome of the church,
and you an get an extremely nice view of Rome from there. Breathtaking!!!
We sat there for an hour absorbing the beauty of the Roman Empire before we
decided to walk all the way down.
On another day, we went to the Vatican and headed for the musuem as well as the
chapel. You need an entire day there. It is rather time consuming, so start the day early. We walked around 8 hours there... but it is really worth it.
Visit one of the catacombs...
by dutch-tulips
Visit one of the catacombs just outside the city, it's really creepy. The priest will take you down on a tour, there are miles of tunnels down there, most of the catacombs are empty but they left a few skeletons to show the tourists.
Fiumicino Airport
by OttoMarzo
The fastest and easiest way to get to or from Fiumicino Airport is the city train. It will take you to destination in half an hour and it costs € 5,00. You can buy its tickets anywhere, in stations or at newsstands as well. Forget buses or cabs or cars, it will take too much time, it will be more expensive and often less comfortable.
Good Food & Entertainment
by Mikebb about Mino Restaurant
We were taken to this restaurant the first night we joined our 13 day Globus Coach tour. It was a fun night , plenty of good food and music and a good way of meeting some of the other 40 people on the tour. The restaurant must cater for coach tours as we saw plenty of coaches parked nearby and the large rooms appeared to be allocated to groups. The meal was very good , large platters were delivered to each table and every 10 minutes or so the next course was delivered on a platter. Plenty of vino for those who wished to partake.
St. Angelo's Castle
by stiab3
This castle is connected to the Vatican by a wall with a passage. Apparently, it's meant to be an escape route should the Vatican be under attack. It was originally built as a mausoleum to Hadrian - so it's really a large tomb. It has a large sculpture of an angel with a sword on the top and we were able to go up there. More stairs, but also another spectacular view of Rome.
