Enjoy Yourself!
If there was any one tip that I could give, it would be to just take your time and enjoy yourself. Like Paris, you will find that there is so much to take in. Plan ahead, map out your day(s), and you will have a wonderful time.

We will be arriving at Rome airport on July 18, 2009 for a cruise on the Holland America Noordam. Our plane arrives at ll:20 am. We are looking for someone to share the cost of a minivan from the airport to the port. This appears to be the most economical and efficient way to get to the port from the airport. Please reply if this fits into your schedule.

Hi - check www.cruisecritic.com. Go to boards, then to ROLL CALLS - Members Only, then Holland America Roll Calls, and then your sailing date. You will be able to contact people on your sailing and see if anyone would like to share. You'll need to register on cruisecritic in order to post. Happy Cruising!
You might find a more focused audience by posting this in cruisecritic.com since only a small percentage of VTers are cruisers.

Well, Lazio is one of the Roman soccer teams, and is the older team. Supposedly the wealthy urbanites support Lazio, while Roma fans are the team of the people. Either way, wearing colors for either side (light blue/white for lazio, maroon/orange for Roma) will make fast friends and quick enemies.
The annual derby between the two teams is hectic, they cancelled last year due to the mood in the city. Every weekend one of the two teams should be playing in the Olympic stadium, far north from the city center but available through a tram you can pick up in Piazza de Popolo. Get tickets at the local stores before hand, or jsut get them on game day. For normal games, the stadium is so big it rarely sells out.
LAZIO: From the 'Original Fans Lazio' shop (formerly 'Lazio Point') in Via Farini (very near Stazione Termini, just off via Cavour). They sell merchandise and tickets.
ROMA: Roma Point is near the train station as well.
Go early enough to walk around the Mussolini-inspired stadium with huge campy statues and 20th century mosaics on the ground. Get a beer and a sandwich before the game, and maybe even a scarf.
When we went it was busy and the music was great. I would say a must for someone looking for a Rome gay club, the only fault would be that all the guys were popping pills.
It's also good to go down to the testaccio district, loads of straight bars and clubs and really great party atmosphere at night. Casual
Very traditional (not cheesy) interior, with tables outside on the pavement for smokers and dog owners. Outside heated in winter - not too good for the environment - anyway, I'm happy inside in December, and don't like dogs and/or smokers when eating.
It was lunchtime, so we just had pizza - very, very good! It has a much wider menu, so give it a try even if pizza is nor what you're after!
Service was fine, and all round its highly recommended. €29 for 2 pizzas, 2 beers + 2 coffees. Great value - it would be more than that at home in Scotland!
We'd been round St Peters, and were looking for a lunchspot away from the tourist rip-offs. I knew a shopping area nearby, and headed there expecting to find normal restaurants. As soon as we sat down inside, I realised I'd eaten there on my last visit 5 years previously! 6th sense?
Anyway, highly recommended The spicy (piccantina) pizza (with spicy salami and oil), with beer. Perfect tonic after a long morning sightseeing.
This place is listed in many guidebooks but is hard to find--because there's no sign. You just have to know the address. It's just one room with maybe 7 tables. The food is cooked by who I assume is Margherita and there's just one waiter. The food is very simple, real Roman food, and very good. The menu is a handwritten list with about 3 choices each for antipasti, primi, and secondi. The clientele is mostly Roman--always a good sign.
The restaurant has been declared a cultural treasure or some such thing, so you have to fill out a short form to get a "membership card"--but it's free. Amusingly, my card was recycled from a card to the Centro Sportivo Educativo Nazionale. I can't remember my antipasto but I had some delicious lamb chops here.
