Culture Week, can anyone please translate?
by lubama05
Hi there,
My parents are going to Rome this wednesday to sunday. From abarbieri's deal I have learned that it is Culture Week then. I was trying to find some more information, but unfortunately I can't read it all. Anyone out there willing to give me some pointers? So far I think I've understood that state musea are free, and there are two important other events, of which one on tv.
Here's the link:

thank you!

You can find 2 links with information on Rome (click on the "Lazio" links) - I saw 256 events listed (and indeed, many musea can be visited for free).
If you have a google toolbar, you can have a translation into English.

You don't have to have the google toolbar, though that does make it simpler. Type: http://www.beniculturali.it in your address block. When the link comes up, click "translate this page". Gary

Hello,
Why don't you just send a message to Antonio (abarbieri) and see if he can help? He is a Roman and very knowledgeable. He will be able to answer any questions you have.

Thanks for your suggestions, all. My parents are leaving 6:30 tomorrow morning and thanks to vt they have a lot of information that is not found in the regular travelguides.

You are welcome. I hope your parents enjoy their trip. Gary

Gary, I hope so too. They had to leave home at 6:30 to make their 10:10 flight. Unfortunately, upon arrival at check-in they were told the plane was overbooked so they had to wait for the next flight, hours later. They were very tired when they finally had arrived at their hotel. Now they only have to relax and enjoy themselves. Katinka

Here's a picture of the Arch...

Here's a picture of the Arch of Constantine, which is a magnificient triple-arcaded triumphal arch and has a lot of history behind it.
It is also held in a well state of conservation, since it was constructed in 312!
Eat-well Trip: Ariccia
by rita_simoes
When you're in Rome, and if you go to a 'paninaro' for a quick sandwich, you'll probably meet, sooner or later, one of the most typical 'dishes' of Lazio region: la porchetta. And if you want to go to a place known for making the best one, and eat for hours in a very relaxed environment, then I would suggest making this little trip to this wonderful little town.

Rome Cabs
by JoanneR46
I used Rome Cabs to take me from the airport to Rome and back a week later to the airport. The service was very reliable, the driver was waiting for me when I landed. Arrived a few minutes before the pick up time to take me exactly to where I needed to be to return to the U.S.
I'm sixty, to tired to lug luggage on a train, then find transportation at the terminal to where I am staying.
Of all the different transportations I've used in various cities, I like these folks the best. They are 5 stars in my book.
My opinion and I found their services surfing the web.
Trastevere is the best...
by azucca
Trastevere is the best neighborhood to eat good food and stay away of the tourist type restaurants. The quality is so much better than in places around Piazza Navona and Spanish Steps.
I had the best pizza of my life in Trastevere.
Lets sit on some steps. YAWNNNNNNNN

This is touted as being one of Rome's best tourist sites. WHY? Its a long staircase with a church at the top and a small fountain at the bottom. Thats it. If you want to "chill out" and be surrounded by loads of other people sitting around doing nothing then yeah, this is the place for you. But if like me you have an active mind and actually want to DO something a bit more creative than "hanging around" then avoid these. The most overartted attraction in Rome. Please note that it might be different when the flowers are there- I went in summer- no flowers, just people.
