When travling from Rome to Florence, on the train, do would I need to have a visa, and is there a reentry fee to enter back into Rome.

Re: visitor

by craic

no, it is all the same country

even if you go into the vatican city in rome - which is another country - you just step across the border, no visa or entry fee - just a few lazy guards

Re: visitor

Yes Visitor, Craic is right. No visa required. When in Florence make sure you see Michelangilos David.

Re: visitor

Rome and Florence are in the same country = no border = No passport control / visa requirements. As well Italy is a Schengen country, so no passport control between it and other Schengen countries.

Re: visitor

NO issue! Its like taking a train from Los Angeles to San Francisco.

Hi, Your question makes me gasping, are you arriving from the moon? Rome and Florence belong to the same country, and visas are no longer required for travelling all over Europe (of course unless you need a visa to enter Europe).

Travel Tips for Rome

LISZT IN ROME

by breughel

Franz Liszt lived in Rome from 1867 to 1877 and composed here some wonderful pieces for the piano bundled in the third volume of the "Années de Pélérinage".
The first piece "Angelus!" subtitled "Prayer to the Guardian Angels" evokes the Angelus bells which Liszt heard ringing in the evening at Rome.

The next three pieces also written in 1877 are famous in the world of classical music: "Aux Cyprès de la Villa d'Este, N°1" and "Aux Cyprès de la Villa d'Este, N°2". It is said that this one was originally inspired by the cypresses of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome at the Terme di Diocletiano (re. my tips on this church). It is thought that these cypresses were planted by Michelangelo.
The third piece for piano "Les jeux d'eaux à la Villa d'Este" "the Fountains of the Villa d'Esta" where he staid, is even more famous. These works foreshadow the impressionism of pieces on similar subjects by Debussy and Ravel.

Liszt wrote about this work: "j'ai essayé de rendre en musique quelques unes de mes sensation les plus fortes, de mes plus vives perceptions…" (I tried to translate into music some of my strongest feelings, of my sharpest perceptions…).

Liszt met the pope Pie IX and played for him at the cloister of Santa Maria del Rosario, on the Monte Mario. Franz Liszt studied theology, was lodged at the Vatican and received the religious "minor orders" in 1865.

That's rather an "un-packing-tip"

by globetrott

I guess, this is rather a
'UN-packinglist-tip' :

throw some coins into 'Fontana di Trevi' - so you may return one day to Rome...

Coins have to be thrown backwards, over your shoulder, while you stand with your back to the fountain
(Otherwise NO guarantee given for a return to Rome )

Tailormade ties

by ATLC about La Cravatta su misura

I passed by this shop coming from the Pantheon and realised that it is very unusual to see a shop that sells only tailormade ties. It was a tiny, quite modest shop, with an air of style that befits a gentleman :-). I asked the man for a business card, because I had no need for tailormade ties but it's always good to know it exists.
Delightful! Gentlemen, pay attention! You choose a silk and it is turned into a tie. As regular customer you will get a special label with your name sewn on the back.
Have a look at their website. Part of it is in English, but you can make out the rest easily, even in Italian. There is also a webshop. 80-100 USD (from the website). You can buy via their webshop: 60 USD for silk and silk/wool, 80 USD for cashmere, and 100 USD for silk shawls (which I, as a lady, could crave too!).

If you wanna lough...

by draguza about "La Parolaccia"

Just like the leaflet of the restaurant said, you won’t find any other restaurant like La Parolaccia in Rome. In Italian, "La Parolaccia" literally means bad words -- and this name has been lived up luridly by its staff. The restaurant is famous in Rome not only for its authentic Roman cuisine, but also for the vulgarity and rudeness of its staff.

Here you can see a boisterous crowd, a bad mouthed gang of hostess, and a showcase of the Roman sense of humor in its truest sense.

An alternate place near Trastevere

by AlexDJ about Mo' Mo'

This is built in a old roman villa and offers a wide choice of food that you can have in a beautiful environment. I suggest you to book your table because the place is always full of people. During the summer you can eat outside in a big terrace. Try steak or pizza. The desserts are delicious!!!
