Rome's family-oriented hotel

by Penelope4 about Best Western Globus

Breakfast is alright. Dinner is fine. Restaurant is simply but nicely designed. Free Internet. Clean rooms. Friendly receptionists. Other features/rooms are for children. A short distance walk to the metro and just three stops to the Colosseo.

Rome for few day, best hostel to stay at?

by coridominguez

I´ll be in Rome for only 3 or four days, so I want the best experience possible. Im looking for a good hostel within walking distance of good sightseeing, cheap food and upbeat nightlife. I would also like a hostel with a kitchen. anybody know of this wonderful place I am looking for??

Hi,
The recommendation I can give you is:
Be aware about the hostels located around Termini Station, ´cause it doesn t seem to be safe late at night.
I stayed in the worst place ever , right there, actualy not because of the location, but the hostel was terrible. I don t remember the name right now..Since I stayed only at this hostel, I don t know other´s names.
If you chose for one near Termini, try as closest as possible of the sta, because it s very convenient.
If you re in doubt yet, try to find the nearest of any metro station, it helps a lot when you walk the whole day and want to have a rest asap.

oh also, whatever you do, DON'T SIT DOWN WHEN YOU ORDER ANYTHING.
i ordered an espresso and was charged 7 euros. that was the first time i went to europe so i didn't know. i was in rome by the vatican, but was told after i complained about the bill that it's cause we sat down. just stand and order at the bar.

I think you should try with www.nycerome.com. There is a good selection of hotels with a different range of prices. It seems like they have the criterion of including in the website only the hotels they think would be very suitable for travellers (good location, good prices). I am Italian, i used the website twice and I've found it very useful :)

Have a nice stay in Italy, though

COLORS on Via Boschetto - I lived near this hostel for a brief time and the area is great - close to Cavour metro and all major busses on Via Nazionale. Walking distance to Coloseum, Forum and Piazza Venezia - also Termini is not far.

Have you thought of camping? There are lots of cheap campsites near Rome. Try Hostelworld,we did for a week and it was a relaxing experience after a busy day in Rome.

Travel Tips for Rome

Cat Ladies

by Rhondaj

I read about the cat ladies of Rome, and sure enough, we had one of our own. Every morning right before 7 am, a woman would come into the courtyard and leave fresh food and water for 3 gray, stray cats. (Inside the little open hut to the right of the picture.) They kept a wide berth until she left and then they would go dig in. They spent the rest of the day laying about in various places in the courtyard. Cushie life...

Basilica di San Lorenzo

by Sarita76

We have so many churches in this city that nobody knows them all... San Lorenzo's basilica is a very beautiful church and is located in San Lorenzo, an old roman neighbourhood, now mainly inhabited by students as it's close to University.

The Central Rail Station

by AlexDJ

The Termini Station is the heart of the transport system in Rome. It is a cross for (underground) metro A and metro B lines and is the main train station in town.
A large number of bus lines start from here and, finally, a direct train link with the Fiumicino "Leonardo da Vinci" airport is available that runs about avery 15 minutes approximately.
The ground level is dedicated to standard train areas; for the underground lines stairs lead under that.
The Termini station is located in Piazza dei Cinquecento, 53 and serves main national railway lines.

Cosy Little Inn

by Marilyn18 about Lucifero

Lucifero is a small but very cosy place, where the owner - a very sympathetic chap - tries to make every single guest happy.

They serve several fondues, cheese, meat or chocolate, and the best Cr?me Brul?e in town.

You have to book a table here, because Lucifero is always packed. The Cr?me Brul?e is the end of the world...!
