Rome Ciampino to Rome Fiumicino Airport

by royslaven

Is there a cheap and easy way to do this by bus, train or shuttle ?

Re: Rome Ciampino to Rome Fiumicino Airport

by mccalpin

The Schiaffini bus company states that it runs a bus from Ciampino to Fiumicino (and vice-versa, one assumes) for 5 euro:
"CIAMPINO AEROPORTO – FIUMICINO AEROPORTO
(Ciampino Airport to Fiumicino Airport
From the public transportation stop at Ciampino Airport, placed at the terminal exit, you can go directly to the intercontinental Leonardo da Vinci airport at Fiumicino in 45 minutes and without intermediate stops.
The ticket costs 5 euro and you can get it either on the bus or from one of our employees, recognizable by the proper ID (I assume this means that there may be an employee standing near the bus stop much of the time).
From Fiumicino, the bus departure is from the COTRAL spot in the public transportation area at the Arrivals area between Terminal A and B.)
[this is from http://www.schiaffini.com/serviaerociampb.htm - the English pages do not work]

Oh, when you look at the timetable, it says, "Schedule temporarily suspended'. OOPS!!!!!

Listen, in case their website is not up to date, you may want to contact them at

Otherwise, you could certainly take a bus from Ciampino to Roma Termini, then take another bus from Termini to Fiumicino...this would be annoyingly out of the way, but certainly doable - see http://www.sitbusshuttle.it/

Note that the SITBUS is for anyone; the Terravision bus (which makes the same Termini trips) has traditionally been only for passengers on certain discount airlines.

Once you discard any hope of going straight from A to B, then there are a variety of ways to proceed; for example, you could take to SITBUS or Terravision bus to Termini, then take the Leonardo Express (train) to Fiumicino...this will be somewhat more expensive but may be somewhat faster.

Now that is what I call a reply. Thanks Bill.

Travel Tips for Rome

The night concerts...

by fed-up

During the summer time there are lots of little night-time concerts held in public squares. Often people sit on steps and just listen to the band playing. My favourite concert was played by some police band outside the College of Rome. They were incredibly good and very professional.

Romans Do Take Their Riposo (Siesta) Seriously

by Krystynn

The Romans do take their afternoon siestas. Seriously. So, if you plan to visit Museums and Art Galleries... or shop at your favorite designer boutiques along Via Condotti or the flea markets, please take note of the official opening times. I must admit that things have improved alot compared to the first time when I was in Rome (in the early-1990s) i.e. most big stores will stay open now in the afternoons. Hallelujah!

Major Museums and Art Galleries:

- Borghese Gallery - closed on Mondays.
- Etruscan Museum - closed on Mondays.
- Vatican Museum - closed on Sundays and religious holidays
- Capitol Museum - closed on Mondays.
- Doria Pamphili - closed on Thursdays.
- Colonna Gallery - only open on Saturdays.
- Roman Museum - closed on Mondays.
- Antique Art Gallery - closed on Mondays.
- Modern Art Gallery - closed on Mondays.

For Out of Town Excursions:

- Half day tours: Tivoli villas, Ostia Antica, Roman Castles in the Castelli Romani (Roman Hills)

- Day trips: Naples Pompei-Naples Capri-Florence-Assisi

For Some Local Color:

- Porta Portese flea market every Sunday morning.

- Via Sannio casual and old clothes street market - Week days only.

- Borghetto Flaminio garage sale - Every Sunday.

Porta Portese Fleamarket

by tini58de

On Sundays from 7am to 1pm, there is a huge open-air flea market at Porta Portese. The vendors sell merchandise ranging from clothes, auto parts, watches all the way to "antiques" - well, some might even be antique...! It is a lot of fun, but by 10:30am the market is full of people - so you might want to go early!. As at any street market, beware of pickpockets.

Great fish in Ostia Lido

by baronedivandastad about Rutilio

This place is pretty small and wonderfully run by an energetic Polish lady. The food is really delicious and way cheaper than in Rome. To be tried (with the whole of Ostia Lido) for a different day out. Expect to pay 20-30 euros per person with wine for a full meal - bargain! Spaghetti alle Vongole. Don't even ask what it is, just try it.
