The night concerts...
by fed-up
During the summer time there are lots of little night-time concerts held in public squares. Often people sit on steps and just listen to the band playing. My favourite concert was played by some police band outside the College of Rome. They were incredibly good and very professional.
Romans Do Take Their Riposo (Siesta) Seriously
by Krystynn
The Romans do take their afternoon siestas. Seriously. So, if you plan to visit Museums and Art Galleries... or shop at your favorite designer boutiques along Via Condotti or the flea markets, please take note of the official opening times. I must admit that things have improved alot compared to the first time when I was in Rome (in the early-1990s) i.e. most big stores will stay open now in the afternoons. Hallelujah!

Porta Portese Fleamarket
by tini58de
On Sundays from 7am to 1pm, there is a huge open-air flea market at Porta Portese. The vendors sell merchandise ranging from clothes, auto parts, watches all the way to "antiques" - well, some might even be antique...! It is a lot of fun, but by 10:30am the market is full of people - so you might want to go early!. As at any street market, beware of pickpockets.

Great fish in Ostia Lido
by baronedivandastad about Rutilio
This place is pretty small and wonderfully run by an energetic Polish lady. The food is really delicious and way cheaper than in Rome. To be tried (with the whole of Ostia Lido) for a different day out. Expect to pay 20-30 euros per person with wine for a full meal - bargain! Spaghetti alle Vongole. Don't even ask what it is, just try it.
