Rome's Empire
This photos shows a map.
One of three found a few hundred feet from the coliseum.
It depicts how Rome took over the territories it conquered.. and shows its power in its heyday.
Very interesting from a historical point of view!

Does anyone have any experience with the internet company www.rentalinrome.com? I am considering using them to rent a apartment in Rome and would like anyone's opinion or advise on them? Thanks
I too am thinking about using them and have found info that says they are very reputable. In fact one VT'er here said they had a friend living in Rome who actually recommends this agency.
There was already a discussion about this apartment rental agency on this same web site. Here is the link:

I hope it helps!!

Here are some additional websites you may wish to visit: (1) www.bedandbreakfast.com/rome-italy.html, (2) www.ahotelinitaly.com, (3) www.knowital.com, & (4) www.rentinginitaly.com. The last 3 sites cover all of Italy, and include listings for hotels, apartments, villas , bed & breakfasts, etc. Gary
Thanks for the options.
Cheers David

I know the Forum is not off the beaten path, but we had a unique experience there. You see, my wife's name is Sacra and the photo is of her on the via Sacra. How many people can duplicate that? I know it is hokey, but I thought it was pretty neat. It also set me to wondering what would be the reaction of all those "friends, Romans and fellow countrymen" from the past centuries if they could see 2 people named Rex and Sacra wandering around their royal and holy place? Do you think we would have been treated as celebrities or hauled over to the hanging piazza?
When you are in Rome you don't really need transportation. From the the Presidents Summer Palace you can see the Vatican at the other end of the city which just shows how small Rome is. I managed to walk to every place I wanted to go within twenty minutes of starting out. (Also having a hotel in a central position helped) The city did also have an efficient Metro system, bus service and taxi service.
This is a great spot to have a quick bite if you get hungry while visiting the museum or if you are in the area. There are great views of Rome from the terrace and you can take really nice pictures of Rome from there.
They serve good sandwiches, pizza and salads. The prices are somehow decent considering the location. We paid about 15 Euros for 2 big sandwiches, 2 cappuccinos and 1 bottle of water.
Your ticket to the Vatican Museum will also get you into the Lateran Palace Museum at St John Lateran & it's worth a visit if you're already at the Basilica. You have to join a guided tour, which are conducted in both Italian & English. And they leave at specific times (we were 10 minutes late to the first one and they made us wait for the next, but when we joined the next one several people showed up late, so it's a crap shoot on that). They leave at 9, 10, 11, and maybe noon, I don't remember. The entrance won't be visible at 8:45, but at 9 they will magically open the door. The entrance is on front side of the church (if you are facing the church, the Scala Santa will be to your right...).
