Congregation... Suore...

Congregation... Suore Agostiniane Serve di Gesu e Maria
Via Nomentana, 514
Roma
Cost L 150,000 in March 2001 for 4 ...with a bathroom inside, and breakfast

Unique Quality: This is a well established convent 20 minutes by bus from Roma Termini. Sister Rita speaks English, if you need English, she is a sweet little nun from Malta.
We were given different keys to enter two gates and two doors which are always locked so we felt very safe there!! Beautiful gardens and peaceful to stay here despite its location in Rome.

Nice, but not spectacular

by TripAdvisor Member avisitortoLinz

Nice, but not as great as other reviews led me to believe. I had two pleasant stays here in December 2003. The first room was larger, but not as nicely decorated. The bedspread was stained. The room could use a fresh coat of paint. The second stay was in a smaller room, but nicely appointed and cleaner. Breakfast was good. The location was convenient too. The restaurant next door was really delicious too.

Bugs in the bed

by A TripAdvisor Member

Sorry, I can't agree with the majority of the reviews posted. We were there in Nov 03, our room was well worn at best.....there was even a hole in the wall by the bed. After being out all day we found some bugs in the bed but thought they might have come in through the window we had left open. The management changed all the bedding, but waking up at 4am with little tiny bugs crawling on you is not my idea of a vacation.
We packed up and vacated the room, right then and there. The hotel did move us to another very small room on the top floor, but even after very close inpection of everthing, sleep was difficult.

A Good Value in Rome

by TripAdvisor Member gareddg

Not a luxurious hotel to be sure but a good value in this expensive city. Our double room (202) was decent in size, nicely furnished and clean, with a good bathroom. We did see into some single rooms however, that had almost no room to move about in. Breakfast was good, with a selection of breads and pastries, cereal, yogurt and eggs. The desk staff was gracious, efficient and helpful. The location is excellent for exploring central Rome on foot and there is a metro stop a 2 minute walk away. Eating close to the hotel is easy if that's your pleasure.
At night the street can be a bit noisy. All in all I would not hesitate to stay at the Duca D'Alba again.

Great breakfast and excelent staff

by TripAdvisor Member Prof Bob

Stayed three days during 1st week of May, 2004. Hotel has wonderful breakfast. Large selection of rolls, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, scrambled eggs and bacon, cold cuts and cheese, juice and coffee, all served by friendly staff. Hotel accomodated us by having coffee and rolls available before the breakfast serving hours on the morning of our very early departure to airport. Warm and helpful staff, always willing to help with cab, restaurant suggestions and general information. Room is typical of Italy, smaller than U.S., but large enough to be comfortable. Did not need air conditioning, which is only available at certain times of the year. The location is convenient to Cavour Metro Station, one block away, but the daylight pedestrian and street noise is loud with windows open. Street becomes very quiet after 9:00 - 10:00 PM however. Highly recommend this hotel because of the friendly staff and full breakfast.

A nice room--if rather small.

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at this hotel in June 2004 for 4 nights. The location of the hotel is good. It is close to a Metro station, and is a short walk from the Coliseum and the Palantine Hill/Roman Forum area. We had an air conditioned room for 3 people. I would stay at this hotel again because the area was wonderful.
The size of the room was really tiny. There was only enough room for the beds at a little bit of standing space, but I think the other benefits of the hotel made up for that. The bathroom was clean. The only thing that bothered me was we left our used towels on our beds--figuring they'd replace them with new towels--and the cleaning staff hung them back up for the next morning. If you want new towels, you MUST throw the used ones on the floor.
The breakfast was excellent, but they always seemed to run out of fresh fruit really quickly. The staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable. They were helpful when we asked questions.
We got up early one day (around 6am) to head out to do sightseeing, and there was no warm water, so all three of us had to take cold showers. I think they just didn't turn on the water heater until later.
