I booked the hotel through hotels.ca. Not a bad price, less than $100 CAD a night. And, I appreciate that my expectations should not have been terribly high for that price but the reviews seemed reasonable, it was close to the train station and it fit the almost-time-to-head-home budget.
I arrived at Hotel Center 1, I guess, per the address on my booking confirmation. After lugging my suitcase up the stairs, I was told that my hotel was the third building and was a further 2.5 blocks away. Nice.
I lugged the suitcase back down the stairs and trekked to building 3 and then up another set of stairs up to the lobby where I checked in. I was given my keys and told my room was down the hall. Really, my room was just adjacent to the stairs that I entered by.
The room was sparse with a pair of twin beds pushed together and made up with king size sheets... which didn't mask the gap between the beds. The bathroom was so tiny that your knees encroached into the shower when you used the toilet, if you could keep your eyes off of the mildew. If the bathroom is that tiny, lose the bidet!!
And just as the proximity was close to the entry, so was my proximity to all of the noise in the hotel. It was awful and kept me up half of the night. The "breakfast" could barely be described as such with an automatic coffee machine, juice machine and rock hard croissants. And, if you wanted to relax and watch some tv, you will be getting up to change the channel, if you don't want to pay the 20 Euro deposit to get the remotes.
The staff didn't seem happy to be there or to provide much service at all. And even if you sought it out, they were not very helpful at all - one couldn't even tell me how to access the satellite after I paid for the remotes!
The photos on the site might represent building 1 but they certainly do not represent my room in building 3.
