The worst hotel experience!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Myself and my wife had to stay there for five nights. From the first time we entered the hotel we decided to found another hotel (but this was impossible because all other hotels in the city were full those days) or to cancel our trip (but we had to pay 600 Euro as a penalty to ALITALIA for changing the flight). The reasons:
1) The place where the hotel is located is near to central train station. So, you will find only "train station types" around, dangerous to walk night hours, and far away, by foot, from city center.
2) The rooms are very small, without any facility (only a safe box). Mini bar..... very mini .... only water ....
3) Cleaning the rooms???? What is that.... Dust everywhere. Another reviewer said: "When room cleaned seemed to consist of bin emptying and tidying top cover of bed without making properly underneath, not much else." Totally agree with him. After spending 3 nights we asked from the frontdesk to change the seets... their reply was: how often you do change them at your home?... we left the hotel after 6 days and the seets were the same....
4) Breakfast was very basic even by continental standards. When we tried to take our breakfast at 09.45, they didn't allow us to enter the hall...
I have travelled all over the world and it was the first time i've made such a mistake... to arrange Champagne Palace Hotel (it not like champagne, certainly not a palace and mainly not a hotel). STAY AWAY

Excellent Hotel and Great Location

by TripAdvisor Member denssharon

We just returned home 3/16/05. We were very pleased with our stay at Champagne Palace. We booked through go today. The staff very pleasant and helpful. the rooms spotless and the breakfast room very nice 7th foor overlooking Rome. The breakfast just enough to get you going for a spectacular day in Rome. We would defintely stay here again. The location near Termini Staion you can catch a train or Take the 110 open bus to see the sights very easy. Some very nice restaurants within a block and grocery store very close.

We were impressed!

by TripAdvisor Member Darlyne

My daughter (15) and I stayed at the Champagne Palace in Rome in Feb 2005. We are Americans and we were very concerned about all the negative reviews we read about this place, so we went with VERY low expectations. The place was great. We have traveled to Europe in the past and have learned that the rooms there are typically much smaller then US standards (which should be expected anywhere over there). This hotel is very close to the main train station and a great base for touring Rome.

The room was immaculate and contained twin beds, a large closet/drawers, TV and mini fridge. The bathroom had a bidet, toilet, normal sized shower and sink. The hotel lobby was very nice and we often met in the lobby area with other people from our group for wine and takeout pizza. The front desk person was great and eager to please.

Breakfasts (on the 7th floor) were in a very nice room with views of the city. There was coffee, pastries, meats and juices~a typical breakfast.

We were REALLY quite surprised with how off-target many of the reviews were and our only guess is that these guests may not have visited Europe before and had nothing to compare this place with. Regardless, we found this hotel very VERY clean, the rooms comfortable, the front desk helpful and the location ideal.

Please email me if you would like pictures (admittedly not the best quality and they do not really do the room justice, but hey, I tried)…write2darlyne@hotmail.com

Spotless., Good Value But Very Hot!

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is kept spotlessly keen and for what we paid it was very good value for money. The rooms are nicely furnished and equipped.

The view from the 7th floor breakfast room is stunning. The staff are helpful and friendly.

It is really a 2 star though,so ignore the ratings. The rooms do not have proper air conditioning, only in the corridors and public areas. Don't go there in summer unless you mind being very hot. We had to open the windows every few hours at night to cool the room down in February. This meant the room was very noisy owing to the traffic.. what you woud expect in a city, but why you look for a room with air con.

There are none of the facilities advertised and not even a bar! The mini bar is very amusing..2 cans of lager and 2 bottles of water! It is a pretend 4 star Hotel, but it does offer good value.

Stay else where if you can

by A TripAdvisor Member

Pros:
Recent renovation, location
Cons:
Room left open by cleaning staff
Cleaning staff did terrible job
Front desk got us a 55 euro taxi to airport. Normal fare 35 euros
breakfast was terrible

THis is a 2 or 3 star hotel at best.

Would give this hotel a miss (5-9 March 05)

by TripAdvisor Member Holly13

I unfortunately read the reviews of this hotel after I had booked, but decided to be optomistic and thought oh well you can't please everyone so I didn't change the booking. Mistake!! The only good thing I can say about the hotel was the room was nicely decorated with good furniture, after that it goes downhill.

The room was very small.
Three ceiling lights not working.
Shower faulty, so unable to adjust height and door stuck, so I got trapped evertime I used it.
No extra pillow or blanket.
No glasses/plastic cups for water.
No room service or laundry service.
No pay films / satellite reception poor.
Returned at 4 pm for rest and refresh to find room still not cleaned.
When room cleaned seemed to consist of bin emptying and tidying top cover of bed without making properly underneath, not much else.
Breakfast fairly basic even by continental standards.

A lot of above are niggles if only one or two, but there just seemed to be so many "niggles"!!

I noted there has been another review while we were away that mentioned being charged/quoted 20 euros more than normal for an airport taxi. We were asked the night before leaving whether we needed a taxi (no thankyou it's only 2 euros each on public transport). On checking out we were asked again. When we responded we were using public transport we were advised that there was a strike that day and some services would not be running and it would be difficult to get a taxi if we did not prebook. We decided we would make enquiries at the station first, who seemed to know nothing of this strike and we spent the rest of the day travelling on public transport and eventually to the airport in the evening. The guy could have been mistaken!!

All in all I think this is one to give a miss.

Small, clean and well located

by A TripAdvisor Member

If you are expecting a typical US or UK style 4* then you will be disappointed but bear in mind that most European city hotels are not the same quality and certainly don't provide the same size. This was exceptional clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but have a mini bar and air conditioning. The negatives? The breakfast was typical Italian hotel and very basic - use the small cafe on the other side of the street and eat as the Italians do - a couple of Euros will buy you a fresh sandwich with ham and cheese and an expresso. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the hotel rooms and there is no proper restaurant so forget room service. The shops in the area generally stay open until 2100 and the cafes and restaurants come alive about that time too.

not the greatest

by A TripAdvisor Member

I didnt like the fact that when i was about to go to sleep at around 11.30pm someone was trying to open the door with the key. It gave me a shock and also some works where goin on during my stay. Only 2 of the personel were very friendly. Its an ok hotel a bit expensive for those tiny rooms. Would try else where another time.

Bathroom Smelled Funky

by TripAdvisor Member SBArules

This was OK - but they placed us in a room right by the cleaning ladies hangout so the exit door was always open with cold air blowing in. The cigarette smoke was hanging in our doorway. A baby crib was parked - permanently outside our door. The heater in our room did not seem to work as it only blew cool air & there was no thermostat for adjustment. Needless to say, it was always a little too cold for comfort.

The bathroom had a funky sewerage smell which was a bit unpleasant. Not the cleanest room either. We tried to make the best of it.

The best part was the view from the 7th floor where they serve breakfast and I must mention the extremely friendly and helpful man at the front desk. He helped advise us with directions, tours, food, provided plastic cups, talked politics, translated newspaper headlines for us. He was the most helpful & friendly Italian we met the whole time we were there.

But this was the least favorite of the 3 hotels on our go-today.com "taste of italy" tour but we might consider it again if we got a different room and if the front desk clerk were still there.

Good location, short walk from train station.

Definitely nothing to write home about

by A TripAdvisor Member

Myself and girlfriend stayed here on the last night of a two week holiday. I thought for the price and the internet photos(which didn't come from this place),that we would have a memorable last night. The staff were arrogant and of no help whatsoever. They looked put out for us disturbing their conversation. they didn't offer any help with baggage and also left our passports on the front desk unattended when I returned to collect them later. Its definitely not a place for drinking Champange. Also,if this is a palace there must be dwarfs living in it because the rooms are among the smallest I have stayed in.....for the price we paid.
