Lamposts and Manhole Covers
by WulfstanTraveller
Although not really off the beaten path, because they are all over the place and one can find them near any major sites, these are not "must see" activities. They can be of interest, though, because many date from Mussolini's regime and reveal his attempt to revive the Roman Empire. The lamposts are fairly lavishly decorated in an Art-Deco style and all of these have Roman symbols, such as eagles or "SPQR." They are interesting for this historical significance. A direct tie to ancient Rome is that the Romans tended to put SPQR on many thiongs that belonged to the state, including manhole covers for their highly developed sewer system.
always pay and validate

exploring rome on foot is the best method of transportation. however, if you need to take the subway then please pay and validate your ticket. We went to some mall by train and had to transfer onto a bus. On the way back, we had no tickets to go on the bus, but you can just walk in, no questions....there is a validation machine on the bus. when going onto the subway, we should've bought a ticket, but we forgot (honest mistake..we always paid previous to this). At the top of the stairs, there were transportation enforcers who asked to see your ticket (first time w saw these guys). If you do not have one, then they asked for 50 euros or you get a ticket for double the amount. So we coughed up 50e each....the guy put this directly into his wallet...so be sure to pay...
Cul de Sac
by SFHulaGIrl about Cul de Sac
This little wine bar, close to Piazza Navona, is one of the oldest in Rome. The selection of wines is huge, but they also serve meats, cheeses, salads and pastas. The inside can be a little cramped, but the outside fills up early. The staff is nice and efficient. Credit cards are accepted. I'm in love with their cheeses!
Vatican City

It was the first we visited in our stay in Rome. Is a litle state in a big city. We visited San Peter basilica and the place where all the popes are retired. The day was raining and we decided dont go to the top of the dome where the views of Rome and Vatican is amazing. I think that we visited all the corner of the basilica and we enjoyed so much.
For more information on my Vatican city page, I vill build soon.
