We have narrowed our hotels choices down to three. Has anyone stayed at one of these hotels? We are bringing our 9-year-old daughter with us, so we would like to stay at place that’s not in a rough area. But since we’re on a budget, we can’t really afford to stay at a nice, fancy hotel either.
Also, in general, is it better to book through a third party or directly with the hotel? Thanks in advance!
No, I've stayed elsewhere, but try tripadvisor.com.
I just returned from a week in Rome and stayed at the Hotel Palatino. I highly recommend it - desk staff was friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. My room was small by American standards but had all of the necessities - reliable air conditioning, plenty of water for showers, an in-room safe for valuables, plenty of towels. It was nicely decorated and the housekeeping staff did a wonderful job each day. My room had internet access as well. The hotel is walking distance to the Colesseum and the via Condotti. Several nice little restaurants and a fantastic gelato shop within a few blocks. Not a rough neighborhood - plenty of families out and about well into the evening. I felt very safe and felt comfortable letting my 20 year-old niece explore the area on her own during the day. Hope this helps!
