Absolutely fantastic four night stay in lovely centrally located hotel cortina. Gracious and helpful staff. Room was wonderfully appointed and clean. Very comfy beds, and although on a very busy street the minute you enter the second-floor hotel and your room the outside noise is gone even with the windows open. We walked to all the great spots of the city easily from this location, and always had helpful map tips from the staff. Appreciated the Internet cafe a few steps around the corner from the hotel, as well as the very close train station access. My first visit to Rome and I felt extremely safe in this hotel and the general area. Already planning a trip back next year, and will certainly choose to stay here again. It's great to see hotel staff take such pride in their work and their establishment.
Unique Quality: Location, staff. Oh, and the wonderful coffee and chocolate breakfast cakes!
Good location, great service and nice rooms!
We stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Cortina for an extended city trip in Rome.
We booked it on the Internet (99 eur / night, in July), where we received prompt and detailed replies to our emails.
We were looking for an affordable hotel with a good location.
We found all of this in Hotel Cortina ... and even more!
Hotel is located at walking distance from the 'Termini (train, bus and metro) station' which make it easy to reach when traveling from abroad Italy. There is even a nearer metro station (about 200m): Republica.
Even if the metro is not everywhere in Rome, the buses system is quite efficient. Hotel is about 15 min. walk from the Trevi fountain, which is a correct digest walk after dinner.
But don't be astonished if you don't find the hotel on the level floor, it is located at the 2nd floor. It apparently doesn't seem to be strange in Rome.
We must admit that our first local contact with the hotel was pretty frightening ... we arrive late at night and the night shift personal doesn't seem to be too qualified and friendly: "Your room is 6 and Basta".
Our hotel room was very clean, of good size and with awaited facilities: apart bathroom, mini-bar, TV and Airco (which is mandatory when visiting RomEa in the summer).
Personal offered us great service (tips for visits times, suggestions for non-tourist restaurantS, practical advice and a good-quality breakfast.
If we go back to Roma we'll definitely go back to Hotel Cortina.
Directions: At walking distance from Termini station (bus, metro and train) and at 200 m of republica station.

Hotel Cortina - An Excellent Value
We had done a lot of research choosing a hotel and found this hotel to be exactly as described. It is close to the rail station and within walking distance to the majority of the sites. You can catch the bus across the street and it's a short trip to the Vatican area.
Do be aware of child pickpocket teams. While walking from the station to the hotel, a 10 year old boy accompanied by two similarly aged female accomplices open my wife's backpack - she noticed in time and nothng was taken. The next day I observed this same "team" doing the same to another woman.
Back to the hotel - the front door buzzer is answered very quickly and provides an additional level of security. Both Angelo and Florian were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay more pleasant. They gave excellent directions, arranged for car service to the airport, and gave us advice about sites, etc.
The room is typical Italian hotel style - small, but very clean. We were traveling with our two sons and requested a double bed with two twins - it made for a tight arrangement, but it was exactly what we had requested.
The breakfast were very adequate and the staff was very attentive.
We will not visit Rome again - it's just like NYC....but if we did, we would definitely stay here again.
loved this little hotel
we have just had the best stay we have ever hadin rome and this was our 8th visit, hotel cortina is a delight, the staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble,we were planning a trip to anzio and florian checked the weather there,it was superb, well worth a visit, and only 2-90 euro one way.
though small, cortina is spotless, the buffet breakfast is enough for anyone,we will look no further when we return to rome.

Perfect Location, Excellent Hotel
I booked the hotel Cortina on the strength of its reviews on Tripadvisor and was not disappointed.
The hotel is in an excellent location with almost every attraction within walking distance.
The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Everything written about the hotel itself is spot on - it is small but very, very clean - and the breakfast is wonderful - a selection of meats, cheeses and pastries every morning with good strong coffee (espresso, americano or cappucino) and a selection of herbal and other teas.
I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and will be staying here when I next visit Rome!
Super small hotel
Hotel Cortina was every bit as good as the reviews suggested. Very friendly and helpful staff, who were happy before our arrival to earmark a quiet room for us and give us helpful instructions via email on options for getting to the hotel from Ciampino Airport.
The room was small, but quiet as promised and comfortable, with a useful mini bar and TV. The ensuite bathroom was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a continental style buffet, with tea/coffee, fruit juice, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, fresh rolls and jam, plus a good selection of cold meats and cheese - served between 7.00 and 10.00 am, allowing for early starts as well as for a more gentle day.
The location is excellent - just 2 minutes walk from Piazza Repubblica (Metro stop), with bus stop on Via Nazionale virtually outside the door. It is really easy to get around Rome from here (you could walk down to the Colosseum in about 15 minutes), and the staff seem to know every possible bus route to get you anywhere.
Highly recommended for a simple and inexpensive stay.
Nice Staff, Mediocre Rooms
Hotel Cortina was our last stop on our Italian vacation. We checked in with no problem after following directions provided to navigate from the train station. Our first impression of the room was a stale, wet odor like mildew. It had been raining for several days, so that is probably why. Opening the window didn't help because the room overlooked an interior courtyard that smelled as though the neighborhood cats used it to mark their territory. In the end we bought an air freshener from a grocery store nearby and put it in the room. The bathroom was clean and looked recently refurbished. The bed was two twins pushed together, which is common. Although the mattresses felt old and "springy" we slept fine, probably because we were exhausted from sightseeing.
For some reason each evening we heard a banging sound that sounded like it was coming from above our room. It wasn't constant, but it was regular and we could only guess it was something to do with the elevator or the hotel on another floor in the building. The noise actually woke my husband one night, and he can sleep through anything. I had my earplugs in so it didn't wake me.
The main problem I had with the hotel was that on two separate occasions we saw a roach in the room. I hate roaches and this alone will keep me from returning to this hotel.
The breakfast was OK, but with no variation from day to day and nothing really outstanding. The third day we were there we decided to forego their breakfast and have a cappucino and croissant at a neighborhood cafe.
In summary, the dank smell of the room, the roaches on two occasions and the noises would deter my husband and me from choosing this hotel on any future trips to Rome.
Accommodating Staff, Good Location, Too Noisy
After reading all of the positive reviews for Hotel Cortina on TripAdvisor it sounded like the ideal place for a Rome stay. My SO stayed there a few years ago and had good memories about it, so that cinched the deal. Our room was nice enough, but the bed was two twins pushed together with a high spot in the middle and VERY creaky. The manager really did try to give us the quietest room available, but the Flann O' Brien Irish Pub is directly below the Cortina and the music + singing went on until after midnight nearly every night. We ate at the pub one night and it appeared that the music video speakers (with thumping, too-heavy bass) were situated right under the floor of our room. Compounding the problem was the presence of large numbers of Englishmen and Scotsmen in town for an Italy-England soccer match and a Scotland-Rome rugby contest. They love to sing and chant while they drink, which is fine if your hotel room isn't right above the bar. Also, we experienced the same banging noise noted by a previous reviewer and never did figure out where it came from, but it starts in the morning and goes on until late at night.
On the plus side, the day manager is a very pleasant and helpful man, and the location is good. The hotel is near the Repubblica metro stop, the National museum, the Baths of Diocletian and the Santa Maggiore church. The Forum, Trevi Fountain, etc. are all within easy walking distance.
Do not expect a big Hotel, this lace has only about 20 Rooms but it is very clean and quiet. The rooms are large and the bathrooms are immaculate and clean. The staff speaks very good English and they always offers a first class service. The Breakfast in the morning is plentifull but not eggs or hot food. We wish to use their services again in the future and we have already booked for my parents next summer.
Good Location. Excellent welcome and efficient service.
Room was a typical Italian size, not very big but very cosy and blessedly, quiet. Brand new bathroom and well furnished. Would recommend this Hotel to those don't want to spend a fortune. The rate they offered on March was very convenient.
