Please help on Transportation. (Rome to Prada Space Outlet)

by mayfernandez

Hello. I will be in Rome in May. Would just like to know if there's any way for me to reach Prada space outlet store either by bus or train? How long is the trip and how much would it cost? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

If you go to www.prada.com , you will see that the closest outlet store for Prada is closer to Florence than Rome. The train trip alone will be 2-3 hours. To go to this store, you will:
1. take a train to Montevarchi
2. take a taxi to the outlet mall
3. shop, then return home

Look at http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g488301-d543496-r54296789-Prada_Outlet_Space-Montevarchi_Tuscany.html
for a description of someone's recent experience in doing so (note that he came from Florence, not Rome). Note that I assume that item #3 refers to taking a taxi, and that the name of the town is Montevarchi.

Note that the outlet mall appears to be on Levanella, a small hamlet about 3 kilometers south of Montevarchi (hence the taxi); also note that it is normal for taxis to be waiting at the station, and if Peter at TA is correct, you won't be the only person doing this...

NOTE: most trains from Rome don't stop at Montevarchi. Also note that the faster trains are quite expensive, as much as 48.20 each way(!) (and they don't stop in Montevarchi - you have to go to Florence, then come back). There is the occasional regional train, for as little as 13.75 euro 2nd class one way...but there aren't many of these. One leaves Rome at 5:58 in the morning and arrives in Montevarchi a little after 9, and the next one leaves Rome at 8:43 am and arrives a little after noon.

See www.trenitalia.com (English at the top) for times and trains.

Travel Tips for Rome

Rome at Christmas

by plasma800

If you can make it to Italy over Christmas I must say that Rome is absolutely lovely during this time. The energy is high, the streets are lit up, the people are cheery and it's just beautiful. I couldn't imagine Rome without Christmas.

Learn Some of the Language

by newsphotogirl

It has been said on VT time and time again. Learn a few words. Although most people in Rome speak at least some english, it really doesn't take much effort to learn some italian and it's the polite thing to do. And you're more likely to get better service.

Thank You: Grazie
You're Welcome: Prego
Please: Per favore
Do you speak English?: Parla Inglese?
One, Two (as in one espresso or a table for two): Uno, Due
A table for two: Un tavalo per due
Do you have: Avete

This book was great. It was part of a language CD/Book combo. You can also get free podcasts of italian language lessons on iTunes. Another helpful website was http://babelfish.yahoo.com/. You type in the sentence in your language and it will translate to your language of choice. I used when I needed to email hotels with questions about rooms or cab fare. The only problem is it's a literal translation which doesn't always work well. I would send both the english and translated version.

This Is Where Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes Got Married!

by Krystynn

40KM away from the Eternal City of Roma.... on the southern shore of Lake Bracciano, the Castello Odescalchi di Bracciano reigns majestically as one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Europe.

The 14th century medieval Odescalchi Castle belongs to the noble Odescalchi family, whose ancestors include Benedetto Odescalchi, the 17th century pope Innocent XI. It once hosted princes but is used nowadays for conventions, gala dinners and receptions for up to 1,400 guests.

The castle has also hosted several celebrities' weddings. Worth mentioning: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding in November 2006. Also, CNN international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and the former U.S. State Department spokesman James Rubin held their 1998 wedding reception there, attended by 180 guests including the late John F. Kennedy, Jr. That same year, Italian pop megastar - Eros Ramazzotti tied the knot with model Michelle Hunzicker (now his ex-wife), held their reception at the castle.
