Escalators
The escalators in Rome's metro stations are like really really long!
I can only imagine what would happen if one of them is not working.
This is a bad shot of one such escalators from the bottomend... Check out the invisible topend!!

We will be in Rome 2 days for visit before a cruise. Where is a good place to buy ladies leather boots, do not have to be designer- for under 250 euro?
There are many nice shops, not of the famous brands, in Via Cola di Rienzo,
between Piazza del Popolo e Piazza Risorgimento.
I got the suggestion from a webpages recommended by another poster in this forum.
There are many shops of leather goods for way under 250 euros. If you will be cruising around the Med., you would save more money in Spain or even in Sorento.Monaco was the most expensive, I just left a cruise in July and tour the coast and saw many shops that sold leather goods. My new friends from the cruise bought many hand bags and also shoes along the way. In Barcelona, their big department stores El Cortes was a big hit in prices and selection. I say just walk and shop at your leisure, Cheers Tommy x
Also in Italy you can buy fine leather boots at less than 200 euro. And believe me, nothing beats Italian leather.
Another address to try is the shop of Nero Giardini, Via Frattina 5. It is open also on Sundays.

A little really does go a long way. Remember, though, that's it's not necessary suddenly to become fluent in Italian - all you need to do is think about what you might need to say to people and spend a little time learning how to say it. A good phrasebook will cover all eventualities, but if you're too cheap to invest in one :) tiscali have an excellent online version (address below).
We found that even if we just made the smallest effort to speak in Italian, people would look at us as if we had made their day, and bend over backwards to help us. They would also often answer in English, but I think the initial effort really does make a big difference.
Nobody has any excuse for coming to Rome and not visiting the CITTÀ DEL VATICANO aka VATICAN CITY and the SISTINE CHAPEL.
This is where you'd be able to marvel at Michelangelo's greatest masterpiece. The Vatican City is situated entirely within the city of Rome and separated from the rest of Rome by a wall.
Do you know that the Vatican City is a nation unto itself - with its own army, postal service and, currency?
For more info, please surf on to my VATICAN CITY travel page. Grazie mille.
With the same ticket you use for the metro, you can also make use of the bus. They are less crowded, clean and take you almost anywhere within the city center. You can choose from 238 routes!! And of course: contrary to the metro, while riding the bus you can see the city as well.
This restaurant is undisputedly the home (where it was born!) of Fettucini Alfredo, the world-famous pasta created by the very first owner of the restaurant, Alfredo. For 100 years, the tradition of this pasta has been passed from generation to generation and over the years the restaurant has gained more and more fame in the international limelight. The dish is famous for the kind of fetttucini used (that melts in your mouth!) and the technique in mixing the sauce (which is just soooooo original!) which has never been altered since it was first conceived.
Pictures, testimonials, and souvenirs of international VIPs -princes & princesses, kings & queens, head of states, (including Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos!), luminaries, local and international (hollywood) celebrities, local and international politicians- adorn the walls of the restaurant.
So, feel like a VIP when you dine in the place and brush elbows with some regular reknowned clients. This is what makes Alfredo alla Scrofa a must-visit and must-dine place in Rome at least once in your lifetime.
Never mind the bill as it is part of the glamour and experience...;-) The undisputed Fettucini Alfredo made in the place where it was born!
