What grief at la Griffe
by A TripAdvisor Member
Here is a hotel that desperately needs to send their staff on courses to improve customer service standards. Reception and management staff are both rude and arrogant. Even though we booked this hotel in advance, the staff would take no responsibility for being unable to give us a room at all and instead advised us that we would need to spend the night in a run down hotel in an area where we were worried about our personal safety.
No amount of swanky fixtures and fittings can make up for the apppalling attitude of the staff here. Pehaps the bellboys should swap places with the management and reception staff, as they know how to treat their clients!
Oh Dear... La Griffe was NOT good for us.

We booked to stay at this hotel on the basis of the good reviews on this site (whilst bravely ignoring the bad ones). I decided to review the hotel on my return - either way whether the stay was good or not. So here's my review...
Well, I say review. I can't review it as, just like other people on here, when we got there, the room had been double-booked and we were shipped to another hotel across the city.
Not impressed and the hotel staff really weren't that bothered.
To cut a long and painful story short, they wouldn't do anything for us but pay our taxi fee to the other hotel which they seemed to think was excessively generous! Wow - €10 !!
It was presented to us as our problem, "tough luck". We'd paid 6 weeks in advance and this is how we were treated.
We were sent to another hotel which was in a totally different part of the city, precisely where we didn't want to go and whilst this hotel was ok, it wasn't where we wanted to be - otherwise we'd have booked it. This whole farce took about 2 hours out of our limited time in Rome - for which we got nothing back.
In summation, pretty unimpressed to be honest, whilst it looks nice and is in a perfect location, booking here seriously is a risk.
You simply do not know if you are going to get to stay here.
It's just not good enough, La Griffe.
Don't go! It is a trap

We went there this Aug (Aug2006) at the end of our honeymoon trip in Italy just for three days. We have booked the hotel through the web the last minute based unfortunatelly not to reviews but to room images. Big mistake. The day we arrived they gave us one of their suite because we have mentioned that it was our hoenymoon. We were happily surpised but we asked them if we were going to change the room the following days since we haven't paid for this and we didn't want to spend our limited time in Romein changing rooms packing and unpacking our stuff. But the staff at the reception smiled and reassured us that they have given us the suite for our entire stay because of our honeymoon. They even told us that they wanted us to be very happy and relaxed during this period of our lives. So, we thanked them and we felt lucky. But the story goes on. We ordered a champagne and they charged us 30 Euros for a small bottle of champagne, some nuts probably borrowed from another room's mini bars and 3 miserable strawberries , noticing that they will need very soon the cooler because they only have one ot two. Very miserable and pathetic for a hotel of this class. The second incident was that the next morning while were calling the reception to ask if they were serving breakfast in the room , which by they way they don't do it:-(, we were informed that we were literally kicked out from their lovely suite, and moved to a superior double room. The last one in reality it was a standard tiny room with no windows that it was dirty as well form its previous occupier. After our complaints and their consistent remarks that they were fully booked they found without any effort I noticed a standard double room with a window and a little bit fresh air and a side view of Rome.
Awfull Breakfast room
Miserable Terrace Restaurant
No Jacuzzi's on 9th floor
No clean rooms
WARNING: Don't go to Rome in August and certainly not to La Griffe
We had a reall good stay

Interesting - we actually had a great stay here, and I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews.
The hotel is in a very convenient location near the main train station, is right across the street from the buses you need to access for all of the tourist spots, and there are lots of restaurants within walking distance.
The rooms are gorgeous - small, but very, very elegant. We loved the views - we booked on hotels.com and got the 9th floor corner, a great spot! No problems on check in or when we had questions about getting around. Bell hops were awesome and very helpful. Breakfast was what you'd expect - convenient and quick. We'd stay here again for sure.
Hotel La GRIEF is more like it....

Do NOT be seduced by the semi-slick images of this hotel. The service is HORRIBLE. I arrived for my 2 night stay only to find out that the hotel had been overbooked and that I had been re-booked into a hotel, of what they seemd to believe was, of the same stature. Last time I checked a Best Western was not a 4 star hotel. And the best part was that they were going to pocket the difference in price between what they charged per night and what the Best Western was charging. Not only that the Best Western was a fifteen minute drive away from the city centre. The front desk staff were rude, unhelpful , not to mention dissmissive. They refused to do anything else. To date, the travel company I used to book the room is still fighting with the hotel for my refund. I understand that these things sometime happen, but their complete butchering of the situation was unnacceptable, and I would imagine that the 15 other people in the same situation as I would agree. Do NOT book your room here.
