We were able to contact them before we left for the trip to confirm our stay. Beware - there are MANY bed and breakfasts in ITALY that can confirm your stay and once you arrive you end up not having a room - they usually take you to a near b&b but it's frustrating. This one is reliable though!
The pictures on their web site http://www.family-house.it are not what we had. We asked for shared bathroom and that was the best thing we did. Since we picked shared bathroom, we were given a room in an apartment. The apartment was very clean. It consisted of a kitchen with a fridge and sink as well as dishes, forks, etc, and a small tv, a bathroom and 3 rooms. All three rooms were for separate visitors. The best part was that for most of the nights, they didn't have any other tenants in that apartment so the bathroom and kitchen were all ours. How can you not love this?
The room had IKEA furniture - a bed, bed side stands, a wardrobe and two side benches - nothing fancy but this is all we needed. They provided towels, extra blankets, soaps, shampoos, etc. The bathroom had a clothes washer so you could do laundry should you need to. The rooms and bathroom were cleaned every day. We have absolutely nothing negative to say about that.
Your stay includes breakfast in the morning only if you get your voucher before 10AM. They give you a voucher to the coffee shop right next to the Family House and you get free coffee, latte, cafe latte, etc and a croissant - and those were good croissants, they had them with different jam inside. The coffee place was really cheap so you could shop there, too.
You can get a map from them of the city but we never did. They don't really get personal or try to help you with your trip, but they are kind and for this money the service is great!
The people there speak English, there is one lady who speaks it perfect, and another lady who is good as well. The night guy didn't really speak it but was really kind. Saying Grazie mille (thanks a lot) and buona notte (good night), buon giorno (good morning, good day), prego (please, you're welcome, here you are) were very useful throughout the whole trip and at the b&b - people were extremely nice back to us :)
One of the greatest things is that the b&b is at a great location!!! It is 10 minutes from the main metro and railway station Termini, and 5 minutes from station Vittorio Emanuele. It has great small local pizza places and restaurants - really that was the best food we had there! It has a grocery store 2 minutes from the place in case you want to save money and the BEST GELLATERIA in the whole of Rome - a huge ice cream house with more than 40 flavors!!! We had it every single day. Also, 5 min walk on Via Bixio there was an internet club so whenever we needed to go and check places to go or contact our family we just went there.
We took the pictures at 5am just before we left Rome - kind of last minute - so apologies for the messy room!
