Help with Accomodations

by Patricia80

I am looking for accomodation in Rome, Italy will be there July/Aug 08.
Not expensive but secure.
Could be Hostals / Backpackers or Youth Hostels. I am looking for maybe a 1 bedroom.

Any advice

Look at www.hostelworld.com

www.hostelbookers.com

and www.venere.com for other accommodation.

The same sites will be equally useful for the other cities you have posted about.

We have recently spent 4 nights in Rome, we stayed in an apartment that was booked through A&C accommodation Rome
http://www.rome-accommodation.net/index.php
we stayed in the AP10 Vaticano apartment. It was clean and comfortable and very accessible to the Vatican and public transport, as well as supermarkets, shops and banks. The price was reasonable and we had all conveniences, including a washing machine and kitchen which was handy after staying in hotels. I would really recommend this place.
Cheers!

Travel Tips for Rome

Enjoy the great view of Rome...

by drolkar

Enjoy the great view of Rome (or should I say 'views' -- in all directions!) from the Risorgimento-era ALTAR OF THE NATION. This is a great place for picture-taking... The Italians' nickname for the ALTAR is 'the Typewriter'... and indeed, there is a distinct resemblance!

If you love sunbathing...

by Laura_Mexico

If you love sunbathing you might as well like to hear this: the same trains that take you to the Ostia Antica ruins go to the beach of Ostia, which is only a couple of stations ahead from the Ruins. It's not the most beautiful beach in Italy, but it's the closest one to Rome and it's pretty calm on weekdays (don't try to go on weekends cause it's more than crowded). If you rent a car or have friends that can take you farther than this, there are other nicer and less crowded beaches like Fregene (full of beach clubs), Tor Vaianica , Passo Oscuro , etc.

Transportation strikes

by eurotraveler5

We spent 2 weeks in Rome in May 2005 and had to deal with 2 strikes, both on Fridays. The first one was a national train strike which forced us to book an expensive one-way car rental to Florence. We had non-refundable tickets to the Uffizi that weekend and couldn't use our pre-paid Eurail train pass. The 2nd strike involved the Rome metro, which we knew about so managed to work around it. We were told that the metro union has not had a contract since 2001 so they strike all the time--mostly on Fridays. In spite of the strikes, we still had a good time in Rome.

Best Pizza

by Gili_S about Pizzeria San Calisto

My local friend took us to this wonderful Pizzeria and I must say I had one of the best pizza ever. Add to this a 5 euro for the local excellent white wine and you can have wonderful dinner for two for 15 euro.

Rome trip

by kalyancreddy

Rome was marvelous. I took this not-very-well organised Illuminated Rome trip which was quite affordable and gave me a snapshot coverage of entire Rome at night the day I arrived there. On the second day, I took this wonderful walking Vatican tour. It was just amazing. I had jotted down the most striking and interesting places and on the first day I just went around the ones I had marked along. I travelled around making use of a travel card I guess it was for 5 Euros for 24 hrs.
