Check security in hostels
Hostels and generally very nice here, but there is a lot of crime in Rome, lots of pick pockets and people hungry for money, so I would advise to pick a hostel in a good part of town and one that has reasonable security. We stayed at a hostel where we found ourselves robbed in the middle of the night due to faulty security. Apparently, by employees of a rival hostel, we were told. You see, all the hostels in Rome and owned by one of three familes and they feud like the mafia for business as they make a lot of money doing it. Simply a word to the wise. The hostel owner gladly payed our money back that was stolen and had contacted us by e-mail later to inform us that security had been improved by installing better doors and locking mechanisms. So, I'd say this is not a problem at this hostel anymore. They were very concerned of this and corrected the problem.
Unique Quality: Ours had a kitchen and veranda. It held ten people and had two security doors.
