Travel Tips for Rome

See all the major sights. In...

by sargentjeff

See all the major sights. In Rome, the Eternal City, you can spend at least 2-3 days exploring. You can spend an entire day in the Vatican Museum. There is so much to see here, and I don't need to expound because you already know this. Enjoy! The Trevi fountain with Mariangela was great. My friends and I started a tradition to sit and drink a bottle of wine in the evening on the fountain steps. This is great, as there are hundreds of people sitting around enjoying the atmosphere. Throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain, and you will return again.
With Mariangela, we paid a guy to borrow his bouquet of flowers he was selling, and took a picture of us with the flowers. This was really funny, and unforgettable. We also drank the traditional bottle of vino on the steps.

In the picture you can see the Castel Sant Angelo, and the bridge. The Bridge was an execution spot, and the castle was used as a fortress and escape location for the Pope. There are tunnels underground going from the Vatican to the Castle. You can also see St. Peter's Basilica in the distance.

The Pope's summer residence, CAstel Gandolfo

by elisa75it

and if you go there you must not miss the Antico ristorante PAgnanelli, for a unique culinary experience!

If you intend staying the night, the family owned restaurant also offers bed and breakfast accommodation.
10 rooms only, 5 overlooking the lake, clean all with ensuite bathroom, basic.

Very friendly service, breakfast in the bedroom.

5 minutes walk from the San Tommaso da Villanova Church, the only Church after St. Peters with work from Bernini. As it is the Pope's summer residence the swiss gards gard it as they do at the the VAtican

The Romans are Aliens

by EGitan about Alien

This nightclub looks like something out of the Alien movie........not the people, even though the italian men act like is stil a sight to see. You can pretend you are on the mothership with all of these beautiful, scantly clad people dancing on stages made of light. Good luck getting a spot on this dance floor.....It is worth it just to see the club it self. As little as possible

Great place for seafood

by buttondeb about Sun Bay Beach Ristorante

Want to get away from the crowds in Rome, or go out to see Etruscan Tombs, or visit the war cemteries near Annzio, a good place to stop to eat is in the town of Ladispole on the coast. There are several good local trattories, we liked Sun Bay Beach on the water for it's good seafood and good value Homemade pasta and seafood and the risotto frutti de mare

Mura Serviane

by Cristian_Uluru

The Mura Serviane (Servian Wall, in English) were defensive walls constructed around the town of Rome in the 4th century BC under the reign of the sixth Roman King Servius Tullius.
They were probably rebuilt after the sack of Rome during Battle of the Allia by the Gauls of Brennus. The wall was still maintained in the end of the Republic and the early Empire but in this time Rome had already begun to grow outside the original Servian Wall.
The wall was 10 meters in height and 3.6 meters wide at its base. It was 11 km long and it had 16 gates.
Outside Termini Station there is the largest section well preserved of the wall. You can see it on your right when you left the train station in Piazza del Cinquecento.
