ANCIENT ROME HOTEL
Impressions on arrival were very good. Unfortunately as soon as we went to our room the impression was shattered. Past rewiring had left large holes in the walls, some still containing wires.The sink, shower and mirror had mould and mildew growing on them. The bathroom was infested with ants. The air con barely worked. Satellite/cable TV provided just 5 channels and only 1 (CNN news) in English. Stayed for 5 nights and never saw the bar open once. Reported phone stolen, probably from room, staff could not have cared less. When I asked about location of nearest police station the receptionists English suddenly became very bad. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls. View from the window was the side of a building. Not as convenient for city centre as hotel web site suggests. This was probably a very "classy" hotel 20-30 years ago but not even deserving of a 2 star rating now. This hotel has NO fire escapes and the alarm button on our floor was labelled as being out of order. For a cheap, no frills place to stay, if you dont mind getting 2 busses to reach most of the tourist attractions then this hotel is bearable. Breakfast staff had virtually no English speaking skills and until our phone was stolen made no attempt to even aknowledge us. If you go expecting a 4 star hotel you will be badly disapppointed.
Unique Quality: Great views from roof terrace but view from room terrible. Convenient for bus into town.

Best place to save and stay...
We had only one night stay as we planned a weekend visit to Rome. The price was very less and we enjoyed the stay. The servise was good and the people in the reception were helping and guiding us. The room was clean and had AC, Hairdrier and all the requirements for a night stay. For people who go for a weekend or a short stay and want to save some money, this is recommendable.
We had a bad experience only in one matter, the metro had no stop in Acqua Ascetosa, which was the nearest metro to the hotel and we were struggling in the morning to find the hotel. The best way is to take the bus no: 360. The last stop is the Hotel Hermitage. It is only 20 mins from the Termini. Then we did not have a problem. I would surely recommedn the stay to all. And the breakfast was good and free ;-)
Unique Quality: Very near to the last stop of bus no 360. So we did not have the problem of searching the hotel. Take the bus from the Termini and do not go by metro. The nearet stop has been cancelled.

Accommodation in Rome
I'm considering staying for three nights in either:
Hotel Melia Roma Aurelia Antica,
Grand Hotel Hermitage,
Hotel Pineta Palace.
Can anyone please advise me which is the best of these three hotels and which is the closest to all the tourist attractions given I've only three nights.
Any information about either hotel will be greatly appreciated, thanks

You can check to see what travelers have to say about these hotels at www.tripadvisor.com or www.venere.com.
For example:

To find out where they are in relationship to sites, find the address of each hotel (it will be listed on the tripadvisor page) and plug into www.mapblast.com. Be sure to check “Italy” as the country, Rome as the city. If the address doesn't work, try the postal code alone for a more general view of the location.
Alternately, just email the hotels and ask them where they are or how far to some specific landmarks. (The online map programs may not always be accurate.)
That said, none of these hotels appear to be close to any of the sites, but the last two appear to be very far out.

Hi,
These hotels are good. But can I also reccomand the Grand Hotel Palatino. It is very good, located near the major attractions and for a resoanalbe price. I also have three days in Roma and I am staying in that hotel.
