My stay was brief...
just visiting a friend who was booked in.
The hotel was very busy as the new pope had just been elected and his first mass was the following morning. Lots of important people with their bodyguards.
Unique Quality: The Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome is one of the oldest and most prestigious hotels to be found in the Eternal City.

This is one of the hotels one can recommend to fellow travellers without reservations barring the price tag. Especially if you decide to book a room for yourself. In fact, there's not much difference in the cost of a single room and a double room. Pity :((( But still...
Grand Hotel Plaza has certainly one of Rome's best addresses, and any amenity you set your heart on. The rooms are luxuriously appointed, and a stay here can count towards a memorable Roman holiday.
Unique Quality: Grand Hotel Plaza's greatest, most unique feature is the view opening from its Lemon Terrace over the Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps. To see what the view's like, check out my 'General' section of this page!

We didn't stay here but my inlaws did (after winning a competition for a luxury weekend in Rome). It is 4*+ and is a beautiful building. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. My elderly inlaws had a ball and really enjoyed all the special attention. Their one complaint, however, was that their room faced via del Corso - a very popular street after dark. They said the noise continued until well after 3am. They live in Dublin and are used to some city noise but this kept them awake. If you do want to stay here, request a room at the back of the building if you think the noise may be a problem.
Considering that they were staying there for free, my inlaws did not feel they could complain about the noise.
Unique Quality: There were beautiful stained glass windows and lots of lovely furniture and sculptures. It is worth a look in the lobby to see the lovely decor.

I stayed at The Grand Hotel Plaza in Rome for two nights.
Terrible breakfast served in a lounge without windows enlighted by low
light...... sleep proceed on.
Unhelpful Staff at Reception, Lobby and Floors.
No doorman.
Room quite dirty......
I asked for the General Manager and got answer as : Sorry we don't have a general manager........
Really.
I thought be in a movie....... horror movie.

I booked the Grand Hotel Plaza after trying to make a reservation at many other hotels. Because of the popularity of Rome as a tourist destination, hotels were generally full on the dates I wished to travel. I found the Grand Hotel Plaza and booked 3 nights at Euro 315 per night.
I then discovered tripadvisor.com and was horrified to read the reviews. On arrival the staff were courteous and we were checked in to our room quickly - good start! However, on arrival in the room 1) a carrier bag from the local department store was on the floor 2) a used pillow case was draped over a bedside table and 3) someone had used the toilet and it was not flushed!!
The door to the room looked as though it had suffered from a breaking and entering.. once inside, the small ante-room carpet was covered in white bits from the bath towels (the bath towels were such bad quality they left the pile on your body). There was a shower in the bath but no shower curtain; there was no mini bar, the wing chair material was ripped and very badly stitched together....
Breakfast was also a farce... no glasses for fruit juice (had to wait 10 minutes) no cup on table for coffee ( after 3 requests they arrived), no knife on place setting...
In such a beautiful city and such a perfect location, it was a pity to find this hotel that is living in the previous century and has not modernised itself...
A previous reviewer said 3* hotel @ 5* prices.... the perfect summary of this hotel!

Even so, my partner and I had a great laugh about it and refused to let it ruin our stay
Don't stay here if you think you're getting a "luxury" hotel. This place is worn out...faded glory. It needs a total revitalization. Don't waste your money. Staff was not attentive. Breakfast was good. We were truly disappointed with this place!
stayed here on 17th june 2005 for 4 nights.
the only positive thing i can say about it is its location but there were other hotels nearby.

we followed our trip with a visit to the waldorf astoria in new york which was the complete opposite in every way and actually CHEAPER!
I love this hotel! We stayed for a long weekend in a Deluxe room for 240€/night (hotel homepage).It is like sleeping in a living museum with discreet "La Dolce Vita" living memories.Rooms are comfortable.If you are nice to staff they will be very nice and polite to you.They are Romans, after all...
We have just returned from our first visit to roma after having the unique experience at having stayed at the (not so) Grand Plaza Hotel.
The only +ve about this hotel is the location. We stayed in a family suite which was dark, damp, filthy, thoroughly depressing and came complete with bed bugs ! We accumulated 21 bites over 3 nights...
The whole hotel needs modernising (or demolishing) it is extremely tired, reception staff are austere but the bar man was very jolly....not surprising since they charged us 32 euros for 3 coke lights and a g & t and we were probably his only customer all week!
A truly awful experience...their web site says it's Robbie Williams’ favourite hotel .... Yeah right !
Avoid like the plaque....or catch it...
